Seasons

SEASONS

There are just two weeks to Winter, the beachfront is deserted,
There are only hardy swimmers in the pool.
Yet still the sun is warm and there are no clouds in the sky,
Although the gentle breeze is blowing cool.
The days are growing shorter and the shadows elongated,
We hear of snow that's fallen in the hills;
But most people love the Winter, for it's brief and fairly gentle,
Better far than Summer heat, the Winter chills!

OLD TIMBERS
Old Man Pelican drifting by
Hears the timbers creaking,
Seems they're singing a lullaby;
He almost hears them speaking.
Speaking of days in the wind and sun
And the ships that have passed that way.
Dreaming of times that are dead and done,
As the timbers creak and sway.

Lovely photos and verse. We are preparing for the heat of summer so this is a pleasant reminder of the ebb and flow of things.

Really enjoyed meeting the pelican...

I don't want to think of winter just yet; we're still waiting for summer :)

These are both enchanting. hardy swimmers in the pool in winter, eh! I bet your winter never gets as cold as here (last year -16 degrees C).
A nice upside down look at seasons.

Lovely poems and photos. I like the idea of winter lasting for two weeks and I know those north of us would like it even more. We have a long summer here in Florida, too. I wouldn't want any more winter but wish for less summer. I'll take a year of falls and springs. :)

Winter BEGINS in two weeks time. It goes on for three months. It's good here but not THAT good!

I love 'Old Timbers' I sang it all the way through. Dead good!

Now I could live in a place with only two weeks of winter! I'm a warm-weathered fan. Enjoyed both of the poems.

Love the pelican poem - an 'Old Man's' nostalgia of times past - I've always been fascinated by pelicans whenever I see them. Such improbable birds!

The timbers! We can hear them mumbling of things forgotten - only the pelican knows what they truly say.

I enjoyed them both. It certainly makes the world feel a smaller place knowing that your winter is coming up. I love the pelicans too.

Thanks for sharing with 'I Saw Sunday', I hope you enjoyed visiting the other entries too.

it is good to have you on board.

Pelicans are a wonder to me. I see them when I go to the California coast each year and stare in utter fascination.

I loved the pelican too.

As we will soon be coming into summer following a long, cold, snowy winter and very wet spring I envy you the shorter winter you describe. Two well written pieces here. I especially enjoyed Old Timbers.

Brenda, particularly liked "Old Timbers," with Old Man Pelican. Ah, the stories he could tell (when he wasn't busy delivering babies!).

Also, lovely meditation on winter leaving and the warmer weather moving in. It's slower here, but it's coming! Amy
