CARRY ON TUESDAY
asks us to use the opening line of
Walter de la mare's 'The Listeners'.
UNANSWERED
'Is there anybody there?' cry the Earthlings
As they twirl on their little blue dot.
'Make yourself known!
Are we alone?
Do you exist or not?'
'If there's anybody there' cry the Earthlings,
'Are we made from similar stuff?
Could we converse,
Or could things get worse?
(As though they're not bad enough!)'
'Is there anybody there?' cry the Earthlings,
'Or are human beings unique?
Are we the 'it',
The capital hit,
A biological freak?'
Time and Space may frustrate us
In our endless mission to 'know'
A hopeless endeavour
To Never-Never
And we've nowhere else to go.

LINKING
Linking hands we dance around the noble edifice;
Is there any better way of standing on guard than this?
Some military persons like to stand all stiff and straight
Saying, of course, 'They also serve who only stand and wait.'
But some of us do a curtsey and some of us do a bow
And some of us duck under, well try to, anyhow.
We pretend the stone's a Maypole and we circle it with grace.
Always, always dancing, but staying in one place.

Nicely done. We took similar angles.
you are brave to tackle the universe all by yourself...if you ever get an answer please let us know
I always enjoy your poetry Rinkly, and these two are up there with the best.
I don't know if my comment registered - I find the Blogger system very confusing. I said how much I always enjoy your poetry, and these two are up there with the best.
Both of these are absolutely delightful. Lovely response to the prompt.
I wonder? Excellent as ever!
