Not So Doomy

IMAGINARY GARDEN
http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com.au/
invites us to imagine Doomsday without the Doom!

NOT SO DOOMY

Oh Glory Be! Oh Glory be!
How wonderful it's going to be
When all we know is flushed away
In a glorious final cleansing day!
When all we love and all we know
Burns out in a final golden glow!
All the people, all the trees,
All the little ceremonies,
All the buildings, low and high,
Till there's nothing left to die!
Doomsday, the day we'll be vacating,
Without the slightest hesitating,
A world that's finished and sucked dry
For a better world up in the sky!
Others have gone before and made
A brand new World that will make the grade.
It's bright and shiny, and without flaw,
And only very slightly raw.
The human race will have have journeyed on;
We wont care if the old world's gone.
On our new planet we'll start anew
And oh what wonderful things we'll do!
I don't believe in a Holy Being;
That's one of the things we may be fleeing.
But maybe God can be created!
After all, he's very long-awaited!
Doomsday may be a lot of fun.
Look forward to it, everyone!

TAKING THE PLUNGE!

Nellie, that's her on the left, had been looking  for romance
And now she'd met someone on-line! I said 'Nellie! Take a chance!'
She said 'Oh dear! I feel so shy!' But what would be the harm?
So we choofed off to Brighton. I grabbed hold of her arm
And dragged her out along the pier. He was waiting there all right!
I could see from his expression they were in for a passionate night!
She'd bought a winceyette nighty to give her love a thrill!
I think it must have done the trick for she's in Brighton still!

I woke to these two poems and didn't need coffee! Both are wake-up poems and good reads. I'm a little leery of the happy doomsday myself--but yours helps because the idea of getting a new planet with new chances is a pretty amazing one. And wouldn't be amazing if the first thing we do is create a God? (Neil Gaiman would have us bring our gods with us I think.)

Excellent Doomsday poem. You made it sound like a blast!

Dee-light-ful, both poems! I love when verse is this light and springy. (Verse that is heavy and dreary is almost a contradiction!) Great ideas and both are fun reads. Thanks.

Oh, I love your Doomsday poem, Brenda. It almost (but not quite) chases away my longstanding Mother Bear instinct to save the youngsters, and to try to save the planet for them.
And romance in Brighton? Fabulous!

Having lived in Brighton, UK for a few years back in the 1960's I had to laugh at "Taking the Plunge" where sex and sand (oop's pebbles) went hand in hand. On "Not so Doomy" I loved your take on this. It demonstrates so clearly for all our "intelligence" we know very little. How positive to regard that last great leap to be a lot of fun.

I really like the ra-ra spirit you captured here, as if a doomsday cheer squad were shaking their black pom poms and doing cart wheels. Well done and viva la

I think this should be our attitude towards doomsday. We don't know when it's gonna be, but hell, we're not gonna just lie down and die.
Really love your optimism.
And the irony of the theme and the style.Way to go!
