Pink Elephants

PINK SATURDAY
PINK ELEPHANTS

Do the Mothers who buy these toys
For their innocent girls and boys
Understand the derivation
And the boozy association?
'Seeing pink elephants' once met drinking
Until one's state was utterly stinking,
Until one was underneath the table;
'Drunk as a skunk' was another label!
The elephants seen weren't really there
And pink ones, anyway, are very rare.
And yet the idea that a pachyderm
With a trunk as wiggly as a worm,
And fur instead of a leathery hide
Might sleep in the cot by the baby's side,
It's sweetness vouched for by being 'pink'
Is an idea from which I shrink!
Should the child grow up to be
Not known for its sobriety
When it sees pink elephants it will muse
'Ah, a toy like my Mum would choose!'
It will be led deeper into perdition
Unaware of its drunk condition.
No, I jest, very tongue in cheek;
Such a drinker would be a freak!
But isn't it strange that commerce decrees
Odd cross-overs such as these?

TOO MUCH!

Wasn't it enough that you were beautiful;
That the air was warm, the sea was cool and the sand crisp beneath your feet?
Why gild the lily with such a rainbow board!

Had a great laugh over the pink elephant poem! (I still think it's adorable...but it might just come from having two little girls who are obsessed with pink.)

Happy Pink Saturday!
