The Nerd and the Herd

ABC WEDNESDAY

I expect you all have heard........
'Who would want to be a Nerd?
See his glasses and his ears;
Look how silly he appears!
He always gets his homework done,
(Sometimes he's the only one!)
He isn't any good at sport;
The cricket ball remains uncaught!
The girls despise him! He's so limp!
What a boring, goody-goody wimp!'
*
But wait! The years have now rolled by.
That nerd who was so low, is high,
With a job that pays good money!
Now he doesn't look so funny.
Ears pinned back and vision righted,
Does he care that he was slighted?
Pricey clothes and a bank account
Holding cash, a large amount.....
Models hanging on his arm
Saying he has looks and charm!
He has risen above the herd.
Sometimes it pays to be a Nerd.

THUMB PRINT

Joe's waiter brought his food to him and oh! For goodness sake!
The waiter's thumb was planted right on top of the steak!
A greasy thumb on top of a steak! No wonder Joe was riled;
In fact, I would go further, he went completely wild!
'Take that dirty thumb off my steak!' he yelled 'It's quite obscene!
In fact it's the nastiest practice that I have ever seen!
I'll report you to the manager! Your thumb is really dirty!'
Replied the waiter 'Hey! Hang on! There's no need to get shirty!
I've got to keep my thumb on it! Don't be such a pain!
If I don't hold the steak firmly it will fall on the floor again!'

Hilarious! I'm going to copy that poem about nerds for one of my students who is writing about how environment can influence a person's life. He'd love it!

A great poem. Scriptor Senex - aka a nerd from the fifties/sixties.

It's true that many nerds eventually prevail (even green ones with purple hair), but it's been my experience that by the time they get there they've learned how unimportant are the typical trappings of success and are more likely to bypass the sexy model for another and infinitely more interesting nerd. My ABC Wednesday this week is Neil Armstrong, which I is also pretty nerdy.
