THE CHOSEN
I'd longed to travel into space, ever since I'd seen 'E.T.'
I'd yearned to be transported from my life's monotony.
The daily grind had overwhelmed me in so many ways;
I simply wanted to escape the round of boring days.
I was a shift-worker, and I was cycling home at dawn,
When, suddenly, I saw 'it' and felt I was new-born.
There was my own Tardis, right before my eyes!
I had the choice! I could enter! And be beamed-up to the skies!
A voice that came from nowhere said 'Enter and fly away!
You need never have another single boring day!'
But I could see the lights of home, for I was nearly there,
And I felt that this adventure was something I should share.
I suddenly found Martha more attractive than 'E.T.'
So I quickly cycled down the hill towards a cup of tea!

ONE WISH
If I could have just one wish I'd be utterly perplexed.
I'd stand there looking vacant till the Wizard shouted 'Next!
Can't wait for you all night you know! There are others in the line!
You're wasting everybody's time! And that's all very fine.
You're banished, with your wish unwished! You can't make-up your mind!
Magic would have been offered me and I'd have, seemingly, declined.

Every wish is a poisoned chalice, or so it seems to me.
Perfection may be promised but, in reality,
A downside always features. An example....'Give me youth!'
I'd miss out on the grandkids and I'd hate that, that's the truth!
And so it goes with every wish in every circumstance.
So I wish for no more wishing.
I'll just rely on chance.

Touché! A nice Magpie!
Another lovely rhyme and the photo made me think of Dr Who as well.
Your Mag is delightful!!
Aw, sweet. There's no place like boring old home....and the wife!
I think he made the right choice! Nicely done.

I enjoyed the story your poetry conveys. The rhyming scheme is clever and in the end, the truth comes out, the grandchildren would be missed! You nailed it! Thanks for sharing.
Both wonderful takes!
The Magpie prompt seemed other-worldly to me, too, Brenda.
You're right, I'd hate to miss the little ones. What a shame that would be, so I wouldn't wish to be young. I thought about being slim or being healthy, and decided I'd rather be healthy, then I could work at getting slim myself.
Problem solved, should I ever have the choice.
K
Tea? Hehehe!
The comforting call of home, what we know..contrasted to "imagination"..what to choose? Hard to make up one's mind...
And what a tale he had to tell Martha over his cuppa; she probably told him he’d been working too hard! Hugely enjoyable.
nice tale...niciely written...thanks for sharing
Always entertaining.
Hah! Your very own Tardis and you went home for a cup of tea?
Think I would have too!
