Hopeless Task

POETIC BLOOMINGS

We are asked to compose a
 QUATERN.
This is a French form, involving sixteen lines and repeating the opening line in each of four stanzas.

HOPELESS TASK

This is all we'll ever know..........
That we know, truly, not a thing.
Our lives are transient as the snow,
Which fades away at the breath of Spring.
*
We know a trace of this and that;
This is all we'll ever know.
We guess at what we're looking at;
And get a hint before we go.
*
Our piles of clever volumes grow,
Their pages numbered endlessly.
This is all we'll ever know;
We gaze and gaze but can't quite see.
*
When we look out upon the stars
We're merely dazzled by the show.
We try to pickle them in jars.
This is all we'll ever know.

Canoodling with her cavoodle ... Julia Gillard with Reuben.

NEWS FLASH

CAVOODLE

If your mistress is Prime Minister you get above yourself
And think that you can gate-crash anywhere!
Today she was performing in the way Prime Ministers do,
When, suddenly, her puppy-dog was there!
It was a solemn moment, full of pageantry and flags,
For tomorrow it will be Australia Day,
But Reuben, her cavoodle, didn't stand on ceremony.
'There's Mum' he said 'I think it's time for play.'

A cross between a poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel? How cute is that?
And your quatern is SO true. Hard to admit, but it's true, the more we know, the more we find out we don't know. Frustrating as all-get-out, but I still try to learn something new every day.
I'm just glad I'll never be Prime Minister.
Whew.
