A Pane of Glass

When we climbed out of the mud and stood so tall,
We proved we were the Masters of it all,
The world was ours to do with as we willed,
Our every wild desire would be fulfilled.
The earth displayed itself in glorious greenery
And we were born the jewel of the scenery.
Then came imagination's shining hour!
We suddenly developed the great power
To dream up Gods and Unicorns and Ghosts
And Fairies, Santa Claus and Heavenly Hosts!
These creatures of the mind now dominate us!
They weave their spells so they can inculcate us!
They loom above us, berating and beguiling,
Promising, threatening, snarling, sometimes smiling.
And human beings, born to be achievers,
Are now a snivelling crowd of True Believers!
Break the glass and let the real world in!
Let Nature smother the silly ghost within!

I believe that LIFE is just another word for God.
And LIFE JUST IS..... there's no two ways about it.
I can't believe a deity created all that's here.
He may have done, but I, sincerely, doubt it.
"How did everything get here then?"
I hear my friends inquiring.
"Why is the world so great and good,
Beautiful and inspiring?"
If I respond "Well, who made God?"
They answer, without blinking,
"Don't be silly! God just IS!
Whatever are you thinking?"
They can accept that God JUST IS
From here to Eternity.
Can't they see I believe the same,
But God is called LIFE for me?

The life of the imagination is a gift..fanciful concepts are misused by power seekers and ego maniacs..
we must have nature and imagination, and yes, science..God wouldn't want to limit us, would she? Really enjoyed your presentation!

Nicely put. Or as someone once said to me, 'It doesn't matter which bus you take, as long as you enjoy the journey and don't run anyone down along the way.'

I've said this to so many people in a more convoluted way, never adept with words as convincing as yours.

This was just superb!!
Fantasies are fine when fantasies.. but when we become fanatical about those fantasies, we are only crazy ones! :)
Excellent message in the poem here!
It really is time to shoo away those inner ghosts! Really enjoyed this read!
And your 2nd poem - I concur 100% !! Very brilliantly put! I share your sentiment there, girl... I really do!
