IMAGINARY GARDEN
asks us to try a new poetic form
'The Envelope'
AabbaA
FLOATING FREE
When fear or sorrow take me by the throat
And nothing in the world's of any note,
I set my mind to wander in the skies
And soothing comfort takes me by surprise!
Up in the clear blue yonder see me float
When fear or sorrow take me by the throat.

CABARET CAPTURE
A book cover.
Brown, the colour of fallen leaves,
Dampened into the ground by rain,
And an air of degeneration
And an epoch filled with pain.
The date of this cover is uncertain,
But the thirties come to mind,
When the German psyche was battered
And the future was unkind.
There was a crazy urge to go crazy!
Marlene set the tone.
'The Blue Angel' showed in cinemas
To the wail of the saxophone.
It was as though people actually knew it....
That theirs' was a dying age;
And they went about their living
With a kind of desperate rage.
Maybe it's my imagination;
Mine is only a cursory look.
But, even if I could read German,
I wouldn't want to read this book.

Nice poetry form...the repetitive lines work for me.
Your second poem is a nice portrait of a bygone era and air of degeneration. Better to keep the book up in the shelf ~
You have done such a wonderful job with the challenge. Love the second one. I am in awe of those who can write rhyme. I rarely do it.
Your Envelope Couplet stanza is perfectly self-contained. It's not easy to convey a single poem in just six lines, but your piece really soars.
very nice!
I agree with, Kerry here, great job!
I especially liked your second one. That last line was a masterstroke!!!
Brenda, you never cease to amaze me. I can just see you looking at the form for the challenge, thinking "Oh yes, aabbaa," and dashing out a poem.
Sorry I haven't been commenting lately. We were away and then I got sick. Not much fun.
