Black Hole!

Letter 'B'.

Imagine it!
There you are,
Mooching along in Space,
When you suddenly start to
Too late you realise that
Like a piece of string,
Being sucked down a plug-hole,
You are entering
A Black Hole!
You are reaching
The Event Horizon!
You start to disintegrate!
This is it!
The Singularity!
'The Point of no Return!'
'Abandon hope
All ye who enter here!'
Nothing can escape
A Black Hole!
Not even Light!
(That's why it's Black!)
Once upon a time,
Your Black Hole was a Star!
It had a gravitational pull,
Like our Earth.
Then it collapsed!
It's gravity turned on it!
It sucked in and in and in,
Until nothing was left
But a dot!
But a dot with the gravitational pull
Of a Star!
And now it's gotcha!
This is the stuff of nightmares!
'Sucked In!'
You've heard that cry?
This is it!
But, fear not.
Our Sun is too minor
To behave this way.
Earth is safe too.
Looked at it that way
It's good fun!
Isn't it?

But it's so thrilling to contemplate!

Great topic.

Explained that way it is good fun. Great choice of B.

Is it? I understand that scientists think that there is a black hole at the center of our galaxy. Good poem. Bad idea, though, to get too close to that black hole...

You're just trying to scare us., aren't you? AREN'T YOU?

There was this Black Hole movie in the 1980s and a three-part adaptation which our store bought WAY too many copies of. I so wish they could have disappeared down a black hole.

On behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you!

What a great 'B' - not a nice fate to contemplate though. The Universe is such a mystery, - thank you for explaining Black Holes.

I'm glad we're safe, because I don't want to e... long ... ate! LOL!

But I wonder, you know, if the elongation is only the perception of what's happening, from this side. What if you just got sucked through it and out of the other side unharmed? And landed in another dimension?

Hmm. Still the stuff of nightmares, I think!

Ideed it is. I would have liked a private one - than I might be able to clean out the garage (and a bit more)...
