Lady in Red

RUBY TUESDAY

LADY IN RED
(Written after reading that she still has ambitions!)

Sarah Palin! Why can't I
View her with an unbiased eye?
I'm a feminist, through and through.
There's nothing that 'we girls' can't do.
I've always thought to myself 'That's great!'
When 'we've' headed company or state.
Margaret Thatcher, years ago,
Didn't ever affect me so.
She was feminine to the core,
But there seemed to be much more.
One felt a toughness underneath;
Smiling lips, but razor teeth!
Here, I sense that the appeal
Is more imagined and unreal.
Women voters like her style;
Men her sex-appeal and smile.
But is there substance underlying
A surface-appeal there's no denying?
Democracy? She'd win the votes,
From a populace which dotes
On glamour and some titillation.
But is she good for an ailing nation?

My apologies to any American who asks 'What does an Aussie know?' The answer is 'Nothing'. But I just have an uneasy feeling............

I felt uneasy about Obama here:

I'm an unflinching feminist and a registered Republican and I agree with you. There's no "there" there. I was never so ashamed of my party as when they trotted her out and never so insulted as I was when I realized they expected me to support her simply because she is a woman. That is when I realized that the GOP views the people as sheep, easily led, unable to think for themselves. They actually expected me to buy this. Uh-uh. That woman simply is NOT leadership material. I'm not even sure she should be running for dog catcher!

Sorry I'm ranting - wouldn't blame you if you deleted this. Just wanted to let you know you're not the only one who is uneasy.

I'm uneasy, too. We have become so shallow in this country that I don't know we're going to survive.

This is both insightful and nicely rhymed. And I'm not shy about agreeing with your sentiment.

There's a crowd to vote for that too..!!!

I agree with Tink. I am not a republican. They were and still are desperate. I doubt they will bring
her back - she failed to show leadership potential.

I'm feeling happier after reading your poem ... I thought you picture was in support. I'm an Aussie too and I was astonished when the Reps trotted her out ... her sex alone isn't enough to get votes, there has to be substance too and she has none. The Reps should apologise to the voting public.
