C for Calypso

The sound of the steel drums clashing,
The frills and the feathers flashing.
The dancers so lithe and dashing!
It must be Calypso time!
The rhythm so all pervading!
The colourful floats parading.
The laughter and masquerading!
It must be Calypso time!
The echoes of song and laughter!
The ringing of every rafter.
The romance and passion after.
It must be Calypso time!
The beads and display of feather!
The hot, Caribbean weather.
All people in tune together!
It must be Calypso time!

Who would have thought such a wonderful dance could be oppressed?

How interesting - lots of things I didn't know in there! Love the pictures, too, especially the last one.

On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)

Oh, great! I hadn't thought of Harry Belafonte for ages. Saw him in a concert once and now it all comes flooding back - wonderful, wonderful! Always so much to learn from your creative poetry!

I grew up with Harry Belafonte's music playing in my house....and I can still picture his handsome face on the album covers.

Dear Brenda,
In your poem I can see it and hear it and feel it! You have captured the spirit of this music.
Best wishes,

What a great poem. I remember seeing old movies and variety shows with them dancing the calypso. Great post.

Great poem. Thank you for sharing it with us. I think the pictures are missing though that the earlier comments were mentioning.

It certainly added some color and distinction to our wonderful pot of Alphabet Soup!

Thank you for linking.
