High Hopes

The Wordle

THE SUNDAY WHIRL
asks us to use the Worldle Words

HIGH HOPES

It was December; I was on a mission,
In a highly amorous condition.
Between Ann and me had opened a rift,
So now I was laden with a Christmas gift.
I carried a trivet of solid gold,
Crusted with pearls, a joy to behold.
I'd tell her my bark was worse than my bite
And we'd pop into bed and put things right.
'Not too subtle!' I hear you say.
But I know how to get my way.
I'd say 'If this were a precipice
I'd throw myself over for just one kiss!'
I'd genuflect with humility
Giving her an inkling of what might be.
With a smile as sweet as vanilla ice-cream
Ann would soon warm to my theme.
I knew that she would soon adore me...........
*
But Randy Gibbs got there before me!'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ETIQUETTE?

How this title intrigued me!
The subject Fascinating!
Crop Circles! What a mystery!
Subject of much debating!
*
I can't believe they are messages
Sent down from Outer Space!
Why should any Alien
Contact the human race
In such a peculiar manner?
Their technology must be advanced
So why write cryptic messages
So beautifully enhanced?
If they can get from 'There' to here,
They can zap us straight away!
No need to play little mind-games,
Even though they're fun to play.
*
But........ I can't believe there are people
Working at dead of night
Slaving away with ropes and boards
Determined to get things right!
Some of the botched and simple ones
May, indeed, be crafty tricks,
Since it's been proved that circle effects
Can easily be fixed.
But some of the more elaborate ones,
Are absolute works of art!
In silence? In the darkness?
They wouldn't know where to start!
For the circle designs are glorious!
Geometric perfection,
With copies of lines and curves and loops,
Flowing in each direction!
And why hasn't someone made a claim
To have managed the great feat?
I'd be happy to say I'd done it!
I'd be the proudest cheat!
*
Both answers are impossible!
I really feel frustrated!
How, oh how, please tell me how
Crop Circles are created!
*
As to the title of this book,
Which really caught my eye,
To what does the 'Etiquette' allude?
What does it imply?
'How to greet an Alien'?
Or 'How to Do This Trick'?
You'd be quite wrong with both answers!
The right one's hard to pick!
It's 'How to Visit a Circle
And Still Leave It Intact!'
It's a book for Circle Tourists!
Much more matter-of-fact!
*
Amateur?  Or Alien?
Which one have you picked?
I think they're fascinating.
I don't mind being tricked!

Rinkly, you have excelled yourself with that naughty wordle. And your crop circle dissertation is brilliant.

Both poems are great, full of your signature humor and those great couplets that never feel forced. Good poeming. :)

You've done great with the wordle words and woven them into a delightful poem with such seeming ease. Thank you.

What competition. LOL. It was a delight to wake up to this 'amorous' fun poem this morning!

High Hopes is clever and fun! I am always amazed by rhyming poems, since I have no talent in that direction. Well done!

I was totally enjoying your amorous wordle when Randy Gibbs showed up. Who's that?

WELL done. A great poem. I can only assume, that with your obvious insight into the female psyche, men can actually use this technique to get back into the good graces of their wives—in the absence of Randy Gibbs. Where does one find a solid gold trivet?

Second attempt to comment, the first just vanished.
