294. Candle-light

The light of the sun is harmful,
The light of the moon is pale,
While electric light
On a stormy night
Can very often fail.
An oil lamp may sometimes flicker
And neon lights give no cheer.
But candle-light
Is exactly right;
It creates an atmosphere.

Candle-light's kind to wrinkles;
I know that is the truth.
Old faces soften
And, very often,
Renew the look of youth.
Candle-light casts the shadows
That make the world brand new;
The fairy gloom
Of a flame-lit room
Can make one's dreams come true.

There's nothing brash or modern
About the candle-glow,
An old-world charm
Makes us feel more calm
And we find ourselves speaking low.
So insist on the light of candles
To brighten up your night.
Let hearts beat quicker
At each warm flicker.
Love loves candle-light.

'Old faces soften', that's true. People look more beautiful in the light of candles. Nice C!

The old camera did a terrific job and I do love this poem, especially the part about the candle glow masking the wrinkles. Yes and amen to that.

Is it your birthday? I didn't know. Happy, happy birthday Brenda.

I really love this poem and it is exactly right. When I have company I am like Hyacinth on "Keeping Up Appearances". I have candlelight dinners for all of the reasons in the poem.

Beautiful photos and beautiful written. I do not think a newer camera with its auto-exposure, auto-white balance can give you as good a picture, and a younger writer can write for candle as well as you are.

I always love your rhymes and poetry. The photo reminds me of a Chritmas card. It creates a real peaceful atmosphere. Thanks for sharing and for your visit.

I agree with you: candle-light creates an atmosphere...That of your picture is interesting.
This remins of me the famous Kubrick's movie "Barry Lindon" , the scenes of which were filmed with candle-ligts .

Hi, gosh, I'm sorry, can't help you with that, my technical abilities are non-present actually. Think it's really clever that you were able to put music under you blog. And have no idea why you couldn't listen to the voicemailclip on mine. Sorry, if I could help you, I would!
