WE WRITE POEMS
asks us to consider 'being moved'.
MOVING OBJECTS
Face me with
Death,
Illness,
Destruction
Heartbreak
(All on the TV, of course)
And I remain unmoved.
Not one teardrop!
Not one soaking tissue!
*
But if,
Suddenly,
The dog finds its way home,
The Mother is re-united with her baby,
The grouchy old man softens,
or
The rains come,
I am reduced to tears!
*
On one occasion I saw,
On TV,
The Pope walking in some gardens,
With the Archbishop of Canterbury.
I am an Unbeliever,
But,
Suddenly,
(And it is always sudden),
The weight of history,
The joy of reconciliation,
The very miracle of it
(At that time)
Pressed behind my eyes
And I was sobbing!
*
I am moved by
Happiness
Far more than by
Sorrow.
*
Maybe I am mad.

GLIMPSE
I climb my stairs with niggling problems churning in my mind,
But something makes me look-up and then, suddenly, I find
My grubby, dusty little life is hardly worth a candle,
And all my tiny worries aren't too large for me to handle.
That view, that glimpse, will still be there, to remind me of the skies
That hover over humans and their troubles and their lies,
Their moods, their joys, their aggravations, and their hopes and fears,
Will all amount to nothing with the passing of the years.
It may be grey or rain-swept; it may be commonplace,
But my view of eternity always puts me in my place!

Great poem! I really liked:
The weight of history,
The joy of reconciliation,
The very miracle of it
(At that time)
Pressed behind my eyes
And I was sobbing!
I can relate and agree with you!
I feel the same. I enjoyed reading your poem. Well expressed :)
I'm also moved by stories in books that remind me of sorrow, happiness, grief, longing, and regret.
Yes and yes. I enjoyed and empathised with both of your poems.
Tear ducts seem to have a mind of their own!
