4 Minute Poem

4 MINUTE POEM
(Except that it took me six minutes!)

Racing racing just like Roger
(Oh dear he's now a slow old codger!)
Gearing up to run in four;
Even though it's not been done before.
Rapid steps consume the track.
*
Bystanders shout out 'Don't be slack!'
Amazing speed is being recorded.
Naturally he'll be rewarded.
Never again in history,
I'm sure, will there ever be
Such a clamour of delight.
This runner's star is burning bright.
Everybody shouts and cheers.
Roger! He'll be recalled for years.

YELLOW FELLOW

Dusk was descending, the ferry chugged by,
I saw, from the deck, lighting up the sky,
This face which loomed with its cheerful grin,
Welcoming all the travelers in.
See the yellow, unbrushed teeth!
And the Entrance is just underneath!
Not for me, this destination,
Nor the juvenile jollification!
But I had to admire the widened eyes,
Filled with the glow of great surprise.
*
The ferry moved off into the night,
Into the dark and away from light.

Nice poetry. Isn't it amazing that once Bannister broke the four minute mark how many others suddenly did too. The barriers of the mind are amazing.

Darryl and Ruth :)

Both great, but the Bannister poem takes the Gold Cup. You tinker with an icon and you get away with it. It works. Unbelievable!

Love your Bannister poem! Writing quickly can be a challenge.

Darn good 4-minute poem, even if it did take 6... rhymes and everything. Well done.
