Burning Bridges

BURNING BRIDGES

The skeletons of burnt bridges
Litter my lifescape,
And I regret none of them.
A fiery conflagration
Is a splendid way to end
A relationship,
An unsuccessful project,
Even a stupid dream.
How dreary are phrases such as
'I'll give it another go',
' Maybe things will improve',
'Try, try, try again'!
Attempt to warm your hands at them!
But a burnt bridge is glorious.
As the flames rise
So do ones spirits.
One feels courageous,
Descisive,
Strong.
Even as one weeps for what has been destroyed,
One burns with enthusiasm for the future.
Sometimes one's own Phoenix
Rises from the flames.
*
And burnt bridges create
Beautiful memorials
Of their own design,
For our future pleasure.

CRISS-CROSS.

Lines, angles, criss-crossing neatly.
Softened by overhanging branches.
Leading us ......where?
