Raw

SUNDAY SCRIBBLINGS
http://sundayscribblings.blogspot.com/
word of the week is 'RAW'

RAW

Such an ugly word.
But not always.
*
Applied to food it can mean
Fresh,
Crisp,
Healthy
And, in every way,
Desirable.
*
But apply it to feelings
And it becomes ugly.
*
When someone strips the mask away
And we are revealed as
Inept,
Difficult,
Egotistic,
Petty,
And, in every way,
Undesirable,
It hurts.
*
Like a flesh wound
It pains,
It weeps,
It intrudes on everyday living.
*
But unlike a flesh wound
It does not heal
Evenly.
*
'I'm over it'
We say.
But then,
In the dark recesses of a wakeful night,
It's there again.
*
Raw.

SENT TO COVENTRY

Where did that odd phrase come from? 'Sent to Coventry'?
It's been used in England for ages, with familiarity.
But few people know where it came from, or from whence it was derived,
Or why, for many hundreds of years, the little phrase has survived.
Whenever a certain person's snubbed and left out of the loop,
This phrase is is uttered to signify rejection by the group.
It appears that Coventry was named after the Covin-Tree,
And the Covin-Tree was a gallows! It's all simplicity!
So, when your friends ignore you, I'm afraid it must be said
That they are ganging-up on you and wishing you were dead!

Both these rhymes were great. I am amazed how prolific and consistently excellent your work is.

I had always thought that being sent to Coventry was somehow tied up with Lady Godiva and Peeping Tom! It is clearly never too late to learn!

Raw feelings are indeed hard to handle .. as much as raw food to care ;)

Well done, I especially like the last two lines, this is the reason why it takes an hour for me to fall asleep each night.
