Bumps and Other Horrors

SUNDAY SCRIBBLINGS

BUMPS AND OTHER HORRORS!

The night is black and thick as treacle.
The moon is in hideaway mood;
Fleetingly shining.
All the doors are locked.
I am safe.
Secure.
Unworried.
Sleepy.
*
I snuggle under the blanket.
Delicate images
Preview
The dreams to come!
I sigh.
I drift.
The night is black and thick as treacle.
*
BUT WHAT WAS THAT!
*
Suddenly
I am wide-eyed,
Upright,
Gasping,
Palpitating!
*
It is the dreaded Bump,
Or creak,
Or whisper,
Or whine
Or SOMETHING!
*
Maybe a door opening.
Maybe a rat scratching.
Maybe a murderer
In the wardrobe!
*
Yes!
It came from the wardrobe!
*
I stiffen!
My feet are cold!
I feel naked, vulnerable, tiny.
*
I must make a plan!
I lie quite still,
Breathing deeply,
Planning my escape!
*
Suddenly it is morning.
And the sun is shining!
*

Another frightener here:

Halloween time again. All the spooks and goblins will be out. Well today is a good day for that, it's raining, damp and cold, so tonight would be a great night for them to appear. LOL
Happy week-end.

There aren't many advantages to being deaf, but the one 'biggie' is that I no longer hear things that go bump in the night.

Nice tension building all the way through. This reminds me of the time an intruder actually came in through the window while my sister and I cowered in our beds. You caught the moment of terror just right. Sometimes the sun doesn't shine, though.

I have done that many times - make a plan when I hear a suspicious noise at night that woke me from a perfect slumber! This was a pleasure to read!

I loved the "moon...fleetingly shining" as the unmentioned clouds scud across it.

The poem was great.

This is a tale I can relate to! You wrote it in your own inimitable style and I love it!

Hi- Interesting- I took this perspective, too (somewhat- there are differences), so I especially enjoyed your unique way of presenting this! I can relate, as you'll read.

From the first line you caught me...whatever is treacle? In my mind molasses? Maybe? Anyway. I loved the poem...all of it.
