Quandary!

ABC WEDNESDAY
http://abcwednesdayround3.blogspot.com/2010/11/letter-q.html

QUANDARY!

Norman Rockwell (that's his back)
Had a very famous knack!
Day after day, week after week,
He could make his pictures speak
Of life and all its ups and downs.
All the cowboys, all the clowns,
Little boys and loving mothers,
Thin ones, fat ones, and some others.
But at times I fear he found,
However much he looked around,
Subject matter not to hand.
Ideas don't surface on command.
In a quandary he would brood
In a  quite frustrated mood,
Wondering what he could paint next;
Like all of us, he felt perplexed.
He waited for his inspiration,
Overcome by his frustration.
Sketching things, then throwing out;
Filled with panic and with doubt,
Knowing that the magazine
Would soon be on the national scene,
And everyone would soon discover
He hadn't drawn a decent cover!
It's good to know that supermen
Can feel like us now and again.
Norman Rockwell, just like me,
Could find himself in a quandary.

ECSTASY!

The wonder of a child is wondrous!
The astonishment is astounding!
That pull on the rod
Makes him feel like a god.
Hear how his heart is pounding!

Every single ounce of his being
Is involved in the task in hand.
And only we
Childlike as he,
Can ever hope to understand.

Great take on the letter Q. Everyone ends up in a quandary sometimes. I love the shot of the child.

The artist in him, overcome with frustrations is also felt by us when faced with a blank wall often times. Just brilliant!

This is wonderful. With all of the covers Rockwell painted, no doubt he was sometimes in a quandry about which 'slice of life' he could illustrate next. His work was so unique and wonderful, and I was / am a big fan.

It's good to know the greats struggle as much as the rest of us.

A witty poem about a witty picture. NR is one of my favourite artists, dating back to my childhood. While my parents played cards with my grandparents, I would sit on the floor and spend happy hours with old Saturday Evening Posts.

the word verification for this is "liked" - how apt!
