A Long, Long Time

TAKE THIS TUNE
Adapted from Jimmy Durante's 'September Song'.

A LONG, LONG TIME.

It seems a long, long time from morning till night
When you're only three, evening's out of sight.
And it's a long, long time until you're four
And you just can't wait for it any more.
*
And Christmas is slow!
That magic day!
It's coming, you know,
But far away!
*
But if you wait a while time will go fast!
When you are old it just zips past!
*

You are absolutely right!
When I was little I wanted to be 10because I wanted 2 numbers. My Dad would tell me not to wish my life away because once you get to be 21 it flys by.

Indeed it does. To wit, how long it's been since I visited. It's been days and it seems like just minutes!

It was wonderful as a child when time went so slow that you counted your age in fractions ... I'm 3 and a 1/2

Then time speeds up and it is "where did the year go".

Beautifully done and I love the poem

Very nice poem. I watch my teen in a hurry to get on with life and I plead "slow down -- this is the best time of your life! Enjoy it!" but she doesn't listen any better than I did.

What a delightful (and oh so true) poem! I find myself wondering about the flight of time a lot as I get older. We are in such a hurry to get older... such irony.

really, really true Brenda,

we've been into that as kids and it's wonderful to reminisce the old times especially in our innocent years...:)

really, really true Brenda,

it's nice to reminisce how we were when we were yet kids...that sometimes we want to be older than our age just to have what a certain age can have...:)

isn't that funny?

Oh, that is so true!

I remember how long a year was when young. Something a month away took so long. Now the weeks and months race by; so where does the time go. Well done.

How true this is. I was just saying today how fast the year has flown.

Yes, it's so true that when we're young we can't wait to grow up. And then we grow up and yearn for our childhood, when things were so carefree. Lovely post!

This poem was great timing. My grandson just asked me how many days until Christmas? When I told him it would be 55 more days the look on his face said it all!

Oh, so true - it's zipping past! Zipping.

I love the description of time perception for little ones. It helps me reconcile the speed of time now. "Evening is out of sight." Great line. Wonderful poem and wonderful perspective.
