WATERY WEDNESDAY
CONTENTMENT
I ask myself
Why should I be discontented?
Why should I
Think mine a wasted life
Because I never
Scaled the heights?
*
The lives of the great
Fill me with a sense of loss:
Lost opportunities,
Failed attempts,
Broken promises.
Promises to myself
That I never kept.
*
How I admire the strength
Of the successful!
Those who dared.
Those who dived into
The surging surf
Of Life.
*
I have dabbled in puddles.
I have
'Measured my life in coffee spoons',
As the poet said.
I have gazed at my own reflection
In the pools of water
Left behind
When The Real Thing
Passed by.
*
The gulls potter and peck.
Contentedly.
Not for them the furore of the sea.
*
I must learn
To be a seagull.
*
More heartache here:

Your watery beach image is soothing and seems to call for a walk along the shore.
Your poetry strikes a cord with me in this autumn of my life and all the what if's that might have been.
Very thought provoking.
Lovely post.
Fantastic shot as always Brenda!
All the best

The poem struck a chord in me as well. Coffee spoons do add up to a lot, though. At least that is what I hope.
So much to admire in the photo as well. My favorite is the jagged design of the rock. Very striking.
I feel to take a long walk on the beach.
Seagulls again! Learn to be a seagull and have no brain? No way! Is this just a rime or is it a personal
expression of disappointment when, in fact, you have
so much going right 'til quite late in life!
Lovley scenery and poem :)
Lovely poem and scenery. I would love to be a seagull to.
Your photo is beautiful but the poem even more so. Reading it gave me peace. Thank you.
your poem is a honest exploration of life. sometimes the simple offerings in life seem small compared to the seemingly successful. My question is what is success for my life. I would love to ask everyone this, it is very personal, quite personally profound and can not be compared. your photo is calm and lovely.
Better still, get a duck or two...
they absolutely breed contentment.
An amazing poem to go with a beautiful photo! I would love to walk upon that beach right now! It is pretty chilly here!
Not at all wasted with poetry like this...but I know what you mean. Personally, I'll never 'scale the heights', but I do have my moments when I surprise myself with some small accomplishment or other. And that makes ME content. Still, I do have a list of 'promises to myself', and your beautiful poem is a reminder to me to keep working on them. Thank you. Wonderful Watery Wednesday post!
Lovely words that caused many of us to reflect on our lives. Mine has been wonderfully full, haven't missed much, but I haven't stopped looking either. Never close the door! Love the seagulls on beach, I watch them frequently here! Thanks for sharing the words and pics, Brenda.
Enjoy!
