Error 503

                                    Gerald Gee

COLOR CARNIVAL

ERROR 503

It seemed to me
Error 503
Was something purely numerical!
But Gerald Gee
Took 503
And made it something hysterical!
He says it lurks
Within the works
Of his personal computer.
He says it's a her
But I prefer
To consider the beast is neuter.
Its extra eye
Looks rather sly,
Its jaws with gore are oozing.
Its slobbering lips
Have come to grips
With the data we keep losing!
Its eye's on YOU
So, whatever you do,
Watch out for 503!
Disturb at your peril!
This creature is feral!
Or so says Gerald Gee.

AN ARM AND A LEG

A Carpenter in days gone by
Never merely made a chair
*
Also included were extra 'limbs'
Representing, each, a spare.
Money was scarce in those far-off days
*
And nothing was neglected;
Nothing was 'throw-away' back then;
Decades of wear were expected.
*
As arms and legs might wear out first
*
Leaving the owner short
Each Carpenter supplied the spares;
(Greater profits, I'd have thought!)

Notice Me!

COLOR CARNIVAL

NOTICE ME!

Tell me that I'm clever as you did when I was small!
Take my little pictures and display them on the wall!
Listen to my stories with round admiring eyes!
Accept my every comment as remarkable and wise!
Praise me for my industry and pat me on the head!
Give me lots of kisses when you tuck me in my bed!
However old we grow we will continue to require
Proof that we are special and still something to admire.
The ego stays a child, it seems, however old we grow.
So if you think I'm wonderful please, please, please tell me so!
(And, if you don't, that's just too bad; I suppose I'll soldier on,
Sitting in the corner, looking very woebegone!)

 POLAR DEPRESS!

I looked in the water and saw my reflection!
I wish I had looked in another direction!
I know I'm not young, there are wrinkles, unbidden,
But luckily, under my fur, they're quite hidden.
I knew I was greying, but oh what a fright!
When I looked in my 'mirror' I saw I'd turned WHITE!

Bitter-Sweet

                                                                                               Brenda Bryant

COLOR CARNIVAL

BITTER-SWEET

A 'sweet' idea for a birthday! Cup-cakes coloured brightly.
Each proclaiming an aptitude, and chosen very rightly.
Each adjective started with 'F' for they were all for Fay.
She was becoming fifty.  This was her special day.
The 'bitter' part? Well, we all knew that, as the days went past,
Fay would leave the party. This one was her last.

WITHOUT A HITCH!
Hitch-hiking! Do you remember?
Do you, too, recall a time
When we launched ourselves out on the highway,
With never a thought of crime?
When nobody raised an eyebrow
As we headed out the door!
Not even Mum expressed concern;
She didn't say 'Are you sure?'
We stood beside the highway
Giving cars a smiling glance
Not ever realising
We were taking quite a chance!
Of course, foul murders happened,
But no-one would murder us.
So no-one thought to question
And no-one thought to fuss.
And so it was lightheartedly
Each raised a hopeful thumb.
We were filled with girlish excitement
Wondering what would come.
And something always came along,
A limousine or truck,
Maybe a good-looking driver,
With a little bit of luck.
Most often married couples
Out for a casual ride,
Would slow down and invite us in,
And we'd merrily jump inside.
It was almost motorised roulette,
An exciting game of chance.
In such a fashion, blithely,
We 'hitched' to the South of France,
The Isle of Wight and Scotland
And places far and wide.
And now it is forbidden;
That freedom is denied.
The world has made such progress
It's leaving us behind,
But, somehow, it's less carefree
Less guileless and less kind.
And I'm glad I lived in my day
When a girl could thumb a ride
In freedom and security
All over the countryside.
The nineteen-fifties were boring,
That's what they like to say,
But we were having a great time!
I'm glad I'm not young today.

Expo 2010

EXPO 2010

A scene from the land of the Firework!
No wonder they do it so well!
The colours explode above Shanghai
Over on-lookers casting a spell.
There's nothing like fireworks for saying
'We're here and we're having a bash'.
The lights and the colours exploding!
A great loud chrysanthemum crash!

RAISE THE ROOF
(Acrostic suggested by Acrostics Only)

Roof-raising in the actual sense was a cause for jubilation.
As it meant a house was completed! There was a celebration!
In days of old the builders and the populace gathered round
Singing, laughing, drinking, making a joyful sound.
Even today, in Europe, it's cause for ceremony,
*
Tradesmen pat themselves on the back and drink up heartily.
However, this basic meaning has altered with the years.
Eagerly audiences 'raise the roof' if a pop artist appears.
*
Riotous bellowing occurs as in the scene displayed.
Overwhelming acclamation means the show has made the grade.
Operas, concerts, tennis matches, all are living proof
Fans of every shape and size know how to 'raise the roof'.

Frisson!

COLOR CARNIVAL

FRISSON!
We walk up a ho-hum path past very same-ish greenery;
Nothing to excite us here; it isn't scenic scenery!
But then we see the way is marked with something rather strange!
Rainbow flags! And right away our drab mood starts to change!
Something must be going on and we can hardly wait!
We'll sense a change of atmosphere when we finally reach the gate!
What will we find when we go in? Will it be a fairyland?
Follow the flags, and then, dear Bloggers, you will understand!
No! I'm not going to tell you! I don't think I ever will!
Just enjoy the 'frisson', that disclosure's bound to kill!

A different sort of excitement here:
