Shadowy-Shine

                                                   Brenda Bryant

SUNDAY SCRIBBLINGS
Topic....'shine'.

SHADOWY-SHINE

When the sun blazes out of the cloudless blue
It almost passes us by,
But a shadowy-shine
Is a grand design;
It's an art-work in the sky.

STEPPING OUT

Off we go to the Opera House
To enjoy a morning of Coffee and Strauss.
Not quite the girls of the Chorus Line
But, though we be five, life's still benign!

Ah Sweet Mystery!

SNAPPY REPARTEE
will be vey disappointed with me this week!

AH SWEET MYSTERY!

Some will look at this picture and understand it all.
Some others will hazard an intelligent guess and simply have a ball.
But when I look at this picture my mind goes completely blank.
Do you think it's my poor old family genes I have to thank?
To me it's a thing that's fashioned to go inside a thing,
But what does it do when it gets in there? How long is a piece of string?
Do the two little drops mean something? Has it been raining or what?
Or are the drops an acid that's about to hit the spot?
I'm supposed to get a message from the illustration here;
I'm supposed to fashion a story and grin from ear to ear!
But all my creative juices have dried-up at the source!
I know! It's a cranjethermium! That's what it is! Of course!

AHEAD OF HER TIME!

'I had a dream last night' she said;
'There was something called TV,
And millions and millions of people
Were watching little me!
I was showing them how to make a soup
From cabbage leaves and such.
And people copied my recipe
And liked it very much.
I even published books about
My ...... something called....... cuisine!
And I was paid for advertisements;
Whatever that might mean!
I became a millionaire!
Yes! Just like Royalty!
Just because I was good at cooking soup
Everyone worshipped me!
My picture, moving, was seen by all
On a sort of mirror thing
And all over the big wide world
I was treated like a King!
What do you think of that!' she cried!
*
Her companions said, subdued,
'Don't waste time on fairy-tales!
Hurry up with the food!'

Lone Fisherman

I SAW SUNDAY
Where we record something seen during the past week.

LONE FISHERMAN

Yesterday we took our tea
Down beside the shining sea.
The heat has faded from the sun,
It's Easter and the Summer's done.
But still beach culture rules the day,
Boys and girls still come out to play.
And here a fisherman, on his own,
Stands, hopeful, on a rock, alone.

DISASTERS HAPPEN!

Japan is on all our minds! The anguish is too much!
The people have to cope with hunger, mourning, pain and such.
But homelessness is something that can surely be put right;
Though even with housing such as this, nothing works overnight!
This eco-friendly design looks great, though I don't know much about it.
But for certain living in such a 'tent' is better than living without it.
The homeless would be happy to reside in here awhile,
Until they were able to dry their tears......
And smile.

Balloon Boy

BALLOON BOY

In Brisbane on most afternoons
This man sells twisty-type balloons.
Right before our very eyes
He twists and bends and loops and ties
Making animals and birds
That leave us almost lost for words.
I don't know if he earns a living
But what a lot of fun he's giving.

AN ILLUSION!

Here, the shadows are as real as the implements themselves!
For you wont find much to call 'Home-Made' upon my kitchen shelves.
The equipment stands around alright, looking very near efficient,
But at whipping-up the Cordon Bleu I'm hopelessly deficient!
Chops and mash I can manage, and maybe an Irish Stew,
But my attempts at pastry are mercifully few.
I do smart things with cans of soup; bought cakes are often served,
So Queen of the Kitchen's a title that is very undeserved!
But nobody has starved as yet; they're all used to my cooking.
And at least the spatulas and things are reasonably good-looking!
They're admiring themselves on the tiling, yes, that's what they're about!
I can hear them murmuring
'When's she going to take us out?'

Lack of Concentration

MAD KANE
supplied the first line

LACK OF CONCENTRATION!

A fellow who loved a good fight
Was, also, not terribly bright.
When he got in the ring
He would dance or he'd sing
And then be knocked out like a light!

LONG DIVISION

Is this an optical illusion? Will some Blogger tell me why
A rainbow can make such a neat division in the sky?
A cloud approaching stealthily would not come as an arc!
Why should a rainbow split the heavens into light and dark?
When I looked up in reality the sky all looked pale blue.
It was only through the camera that indigo shone through!
So, dear Scientific Blogger, please listen to my plea,
And explain this 'long division' to this rather ignorant me!

So There!

GRANDMA'S GOULASH
suggests brevity!

SO THERE!

They say cows know when it's going to rain!
It's said we lie in the grass,
So that we have a dry spot to sleep
When the rain should decide to pass.
Well, I'm a cow whose name is Mary.
And, guess what! I'm going to be contrary!

WASH-BOARD

We have a small museum in the centre of our town
And it's merely someone's house that's been preserved.
The artifacts inside it are all normal household things
Given the rapt attention that's deserved.
They date from the nineteen-fifties, when people washed by hand,
And did many other chores the same way too,
And here we see the Curator telling my grandson, Blake,
What work the wash-boards were supposed to do.
It's a picture of no consequence, and yet I think it's sweet;
Blake's rapt attention lighting-up the scene.
I wonder if he remembers that day so long ago
Every time his clothes get tossed in the machine!

Two-Timing

CARRY ON TUESDAY
asks us to use a quote from Anon
'When the one whose hand you're holding is the one who holds your heart....'

My offering is somewhat irreverent!

TWO-TIMING

When the one whose hand you’re holding
Isn't the one who holds your heart
Then you've always got to be careful.....
Infidelity's an art.
You've got to get your timing right,
You've got to learn to lie,
You've got to look quite innocent
When one looks you in the eye.
Two-timing can be lots of fun,
If your stamina permits;
It gives rise to variety
And other benefits.
But if the hand you're holding
Is also holding cash,
Too precipitous a move
Can also be quite rash.
So be very very careful,
Before you choose 'the one'.
One little slip and, oh dear me,
You may end up with none!

HOVER BOY!

I didn't take this picture! But the concept caught my eye.
A little boy who's very brave, pretending he can fly!
High up in a sky-scraper, on a strong transparent floor,
He can spread his arms and swoop straight up and hover there and soar.
The buildings way below him look exactly like small toys,
And he knows he is the envy of all other little boys.
Maybe he'll be a pilot and, one day, really fly,
Saying 'When I was a little boy I loved being very high.'
