Windblown

I must stop looking at
 EASY STREET PROMPTS!

I find them all irresistible!

WINDBLOWN!

With what meticulous care
She had coiffed her lovely hair!
And brushed her lashes, till they framed her eyes!
She'd worked for hours on lips
And delicate finger-tips,
And her dress had been right colour and right size.
She had brooded over shoes;
Which ones should she choose?
Flat shoes, maybe, to make her look petite?.
She had chosen her perfume
So it's fragrance rocked the room;
It managed to be passionate but sweet.
The matter of  bouquets
Had taken several days
For Mother had opinions of her own,
And the little bridesmaids dresses,
(So they both looked like Princesses,)
Had been made to set exactly the right tone.
They all said, when she arrived,
That she'd certainly contrived
To make herself a picture of perfection,
And her bridegroom felt so proud
When they turned round to the crowd,
And she smiled a painted smile in their direction.
But then, a fickle breeze
Came cavorting through the trees
And tossed her veil and hair in disarray.
And everybody said
As the wind whirled round her head
That she'd never looked so lovely the whole day.

A romance that ended less happily here:

Dance Macabre!

DANCE MACABRE!

What, I ask, is the appeal
Of the macabre and the unreal?
The Gothic craze just leaves me cold.
Yet many love it, I am told.
Skipping about at dead of night,
Eyes all black and face all white!
Hovering nightly quite undaunted
In graveyards which may well be haunted!
Dyeing ones hair as black as jet
And keeping a werewolf as a pet!
Dancing about among the stones,
Undismayed by shrieks and groans!
Wearing black, a sign of grief;
Sobbing into a handkerchief.
Piercing oneself in various places
Much more intimate than faces.
Choosing purple lipstick, too!
A terribly funereal hue!
Dracula is Patron Saint!
Not a semblance of restraint!
These Gothic types are always young,
And they must be highly strung!
They haven't learned that it's a crime
To look for Death before its time!

A little Gothic of my own here:

Humming a Haiku

TUMBLEWORDS
published this enchanting image just now.
I'm not really at home with haiku as I'm very verbose!
But I like having a try.

HUMMING A HAIKU
Light fractured in splinters
Rainbow released
Flutter and hum in the light.

The Quest

A Bolivian Folktale
 THE QUEST

Whenever the wind blew softly, whenever it spoke of Spring,
The armadillo fretted because he could not sing.
He'd sit by the pool in the evening, when the frogs were in full voice
And the sound of their loud green croaking would make his heart rejoice.
'Tell me your secret, I beg you!' he'd say to the noisy frogs,
As they sang their haunting love-songs, from their gnarled and mossy logs.
'We cannot teach you our secret! What a very stupid thing!
You are an armadillo! Armadillos cannot sing!'
One day when he was musing some crickets sang a tune;
They chirped and trilled and fluttered in the heat of the afternoon.
Their song filled every corner and Armadillo sighed,
'Please teach me to sing as you do!' But they laughed until they cried.
'You're only an Armadillo! Stop making such a fuss!
We have our wonderful voices, but you cannot be like us!'
He crept by an open window, and he heard canaries sing;
Though caged, they sang as loudly as canaries on the wing.
' Please teach me your song! It's so lovely! I want to sing like you!'
So said the Armadillo, 'Please make my dreams come true!'
But he just amused the canaries who twittered 'Run along!
Remember that armadillos haven't got the gift of song!'
Broken-hearted, the Armadillo wandered off down the wild-wood track
And he came to a place in the forest where the Wizard had his shack.
He knocked, and the door was opened, and the Wizard recognised
That here was a soul in torment, who should not be despised.
'What is your wish, Armadillo?' the Wizard whispered low,
'I want to sing!' came the answer but the Wizard answered 'No!
Some creatures are made for singing and they do it very well,
But you have a gift, Armadillo, and that is your beautiful shell!'
'I don't care for my shell! It is nothing! I've hated my shell from the start!
All I want is a voice for expressing all the music I have in my heart!'
'I can make your shell sing' said the Wizard, 'But I'm fearful and I'll tell you why;
If I take your shell you'll be naked and without it I fear that you'll die.'
'I'd rather be dead than not singing!' Armadillo was down on his knees;
'Take my life! For my shell will be singing! Take it! I beg of you! Please!'
So the Wizard dispatched Armadillo! Ah yes, it's a sad tale to tell!
And the Wizard was left, as he'd promised, to work on the beautiful shell.
And a thing of great beauty was fashioned, a musical instrument too;
And no note was ever so perfect as the note that the Wizard blew!
And he called to his side a musician, the best in the world, people said,
Saying 'Play this for Armadillo, an artist who now is dead'.
And the frogs heard the music playing and the crickets heard song
And the little caged birds, the canaries, knew that they'd been wrong.
And the whole world heard the singing, the glorious musical notes
That seemed to come from the heavens, from a thousand angel throats!
For the songs of Armadillo were the best songs ever heard.
Armadillo himself was singing. Armadillo had the last word.

Bushwalk

This photograph was taken between the shops and the sea; we could hear the traffic and the waves! Yet we might just as well have been deep in the bush.

THAT'S MY WORLD

BUSHWALK.

Bush-walking is a pastime that everyone enjoys
And it need not be exhausting or intense.
There are many wild and gentle places waiting to be found
Where you'll never see a gate or find a fence.
The eucalypts are everywhere, and leafy ferns as well,
And little creeks meander down the hill.
The bell-birds hiding in the trees chime their tinkling songs
And the kookaburra's laugh is loud and shrill.
This isn't really country, though it seems a rural place;
The city isn't very far away.
But the bushland still envelopes us with true Australian charm.
And I'm sure I hear it whispering 'G'day!'

Stretching a Point!

EASYSTREET
http://everyphototellsastory.blogspot.com/2009/05/image-prompt-stretch.html
displays a rather less gruesome example, but the poem fits.

The original meme was
'STRETCH'

STRETCHING A POINT!

I never could, I never would stretch to this extent.
In fact the act of bending never was my bent!
I never had the slightest urge to wind myself and twist,
Tying myself in curious knots was never on my list!.
I like my head just where it is, set right between each shoulder;
So I never try to be a winder, slitherer or folder.
I like my feet down near the ground, where they have always been;
I like my knees set side by side with no head in between!
I don't desire to have my bottom waving in the air.;
I've always been quite modest about my derriere.
The 'S-bend' this girl demonstrates looks dangerous to me;
I'd rather have my 'S-bend' reserved for 'toiletry'.
My mother used to say to me, when I tried a grimace,
'If I were you I wouldn't make that ghastly-looking face!
The wind might change and then you'll look all twisted up for ever!
Then, my lady, you will find you haven't been too clever!'
What if the wind should change for this so-oddly writhing person?
Surely her situation, then, would very clearly worsen!
The other passengers, I'm sure, would make an awful fuss,
If, in her present form, she tried to climb up on a bus!
No, these convolutions are never to my taste.
In any case she's just about to snap off at the waist!

More nasty body-business here:

Those Were the Songs

I forget who created this collage of daydreams by the Mersey!
 Please remind me who you are and I'll acknowledge you!

TOTALLY OPTIONAL PROMPTS
http://totallyoptionalprompts.blogspot.com/2009/05/totally-optional-prompt-song-lyrics.html
suggests a parody.

This parody can be sung to the tune 'Those Were the Days'
which is not a Beatles' song, though this is about them!

THOSE WERE THE SONGS!

Those were the days, my friend;
We thought they'd never end'
But hasn't someone else said that before?
In nineteen sixty-three
Life seemed eternity
And I was never adding up the score.
*
And every Beatles' song,
That, weekly, came along,
Seemed to be written just for me alone.
So now I lie and dream
Remembering every theme,
And every tune and mood and subtle tone.
*
Maybe 'A Hard days Night'
Would make me feel uptight
But John and Ringo made me feel O.K.,
'Eleanor Rigby' then,
Could make me sad again,
But 'All my Loving' drove the blues away.
*
'From Me to You' they said;
It circled in my head;
I felt they meant their loving words for me.
'Here Comes the Sun' they'd say
And, on a rainy day,
I found the world as sunny as could be!
*
I really must include
That song they called 'Hey Jude!'
There was a song that always hypnotised!
'I Want to Hold your Hand'
Made all the world seem grand,
We sang-along and no-one  was surprised!
*
When life was hard on me
I'd simply 'Let it Be'.
And I'd forget my silly  foolish fears.
And then that girl 'Michelle'
Could make me glad as well
Although my French would drive the girl to tears!.
*
We heard 'She Loves You' play
And joined in 'Yea, yea, yea!'
For they were tunes  that never ceased to please.
'The Long And Winding Road'
Led to my own abode
Where Beatles' songs just made me feel at ease.
*
But now I'm lying here
And the main song I hear
Is 'Yesterday' because I'm moving on.
For Father Time decrees
These are old melodies
And I'm aware that something great has gone.

Another, more recent, remembered song here:
