Spring Colour

SPRING COLOUR

Florist's blooms abundantly
Give examples of variety.
The local nursery overflows
With tones of yellow, pink and rose.
You want blue? OK it's here
In boxes and tables blues appear.
You want yellow? The trellis is gold;
Nice and sturdy, straight and bold.
You want red? Just see it glow
In the flowers, row on row.
The world would be a whole lot duller
Without these blossomings of colour.

THE FLAME

The spurt of flaring energy;
The broad flame shining in dark corners;
The sputtering and the dark.

Dolphin Dive

Jimmys Beach NSW

OUR WORLD TUESDAY

DOLPHIN DIVE

My son-in-law's at home in water,
Unlike his land-locked wife, my daughter!
I often think how much we miss,
 When I see enjoyment such as this.
I wish my young days had been spent
In a watery environment.

THE WITCH'S COMPUTER

Since thou look'st at me askance
And leads thy Witch a merry dance
I'll now prepare an incantation,
Suited to this situation.
May thy keyboard jam and stick!
May thy mouse refuse to click!
May thy cursor be accursed
May thy arrows be reversed!
May thy screen be smeared with goo
May thy pictures be askew!
May thy microphone fall dumb!
May thy thingammyjig succumb!
Then..... when I see the state thou'rt in,
I shall cast thee in the bin!

Chicken and Asparagus Pie

DVERSE
http://dversepoets.com/
asks us for a foodie poem

CHICKEN AND ASPARAGUS PIE
(A rhyming recipe)

Two carrots, three onions, some mushrooms,
Cut them up finely and fry
In unsalted butter, five minutes.
Then stir in plain flour, by and by.
Now add milk and then cream, till it's creamy,
Plus seasoning, till it's just right.
Then, lastly, asparagus pieces
And cooked chicken. The size? Say a bite.
Pour the simmering mix in a pie-dish.
When it cools add the pastry on top.
Bake at HOT for about twenty minutes.
And you certainly won't have a flop!

Ingredients: 1/4 pound mushrooms, 3/4 ounce plain flour, 15 fluid ounces milk, 2 Tbspoons cream, 6 ounces canned asparagus, 1lb cooked chicken, puff pastry, egg wash.

PINKLY SPRING

You'd almost say that we're in clover!
The pinks and whites are spilling over,
Right outside the Shopping Centre;
They almost seem to demand to enter!
So fresh, so young, so full of cheer!
What a beautiful time of year!

Wrong Climate

MAD KANE
gave us the first line.

WRONG CLIMATE

A woman displayed her dismay
When invited to ride in a sleigh.
She was in Timbuctoo
So snowflakes were few.
She'd have been better off in Bombay!

PUFF BALL

Puff-ball perfection, white upon white;
Each flower identical, rotund and bright.
A bold sphere of elegance heralding Spring
And all the delights that the season will bring.
A big side-walk bonus that lights up the street.
A bubble of brilliance to prove life is sweet.

Puzzlement

BLUE MONDAY

PUZZLEMENT

So China sets about making things
And does it with a will!
But I've a funny feeling
There's been a bit of over-kill!
By manufacturing everything
And paying workers poorly
China's affected other countries
And they've suffered sorely.
Factories have closed down
In countries in the West.
'Let's leave it all to the Chinese
Because they do it best.'
But all the millions of unemployed
Have little money to spend!
And that is bound to hurt
The Chinese people in the end.
If noone buys the Chinese goods
Exports will simply stop
And then the Chinese wages
Will drop and drop and drop.
We sink or swim together,
Co-operation's best.
It's no good being self-centred
And ruining all the rest.
I know nothing of finance;
My case may not be strong.
But it seems to me that, somewhere,
We've got the whole thing wrong!

PROMISE
(A Haiku)

Now we see the sky
And the green grace of the leaves.
Soon will come the grapes.

PS
Rebecca and her husband and son spent a lovely day at Jimmy's Beach earlier in the week. She took a lovely set of photos, which it is a joy to share.

Brian's private Paradise

Good to be alive.

Sand between Blake's toes.
Breeze-blown Rebecca.
Playing porpoises.
Bliss for Banjo.

False Start

                                            Brenda Bryant

SKYWATCH

FALSE START

The Spring arrived with great to-do,
Skies without a cloud, and blue.
The gardens put on fine array
And birds sang, greeting every day.
The smell of jasmine filled the air
And kids chose sleeveless shirts to wear.
'The Spring is sprung!' we all agreed ;
'It's early too! Just what we need!'
But, suddenly, the clouds rolled in;
Our summery clothes felt light and thin.
The birds clung on to wind-tossed trees
And new green leaves shrank from the breeze.
The thunder roared, the lightning flashed;
All at once our wild hopes crashed!
Spring, which had proved itself a hit,
Decided we must wait a bit.

RAIN ON DEMAND

Rain is very tricky stuff.
We want it, yes, but just enough!
We want it when we're tucked indoors;
 Outside it's drippy when it pours.
We want it raining in the night;
So that our days dawn clear and bright.
We want it on a ho-hum date,
Not on the day of the Village Fete.
We want a lot to swell the buds,
But not a downpour so it floods.
We want a little there's no doubt,
But not so little we get a drought!
Oh if it only could be planned
That we got rainfall on demand!

PS

I had a very busy day yesterday. I chaired the monthly Probus Meeting in the morning. Our speaker came from the Jane Austin society and she spoke very lovingly about all the books. I was reminded of my dear friend, Althea, who loved the novels and who, sadly, is no longer with us. Then I went to the Mary Ellen to have lunch with friends. And, finally, three of us visited the hospital, where Yvonne has just had a knee replacement. After only four days she is managing to walk with a stick! We complain about modern life but we are so lucky to be the beneficiaries of medical advances!

Pam, Yvonne and me.
