Lined Up.

Brenda Bryant

MONOCHROME WEEKEND

LINED-UP!

It's getting on my nerves,
Being devoid of curves!
As I sit here and wait
My life's completely straight!
Up and down they go!
Above and down below!
Across and on the slant.
Bless my Sainted Aunt!
Lines to left and right!
Low and at a height!
How I sigh and yearn
For shapes that curve and turn!
A circle, maybe two,
Would so improve my view.
A seat like me deserves
A lady with some curves!
I say, when girls pass by,
'Come on! Don't be shy!'
But lines are all I see.
Nothing but lines for me!

White-Out!

I saw these bewildered hens on Mrs Nesbitt's page and I couldn't resist them!

WHITE OUT!

Mrs Nesbitt! Mrs Nesbitt! Come outside and see!
All the farm is white and fuzzy! Whatever can it be?
When we stepped into the morning we very nearly froze!
Now we're standing all bewildered in a puzzled pose!
You didn't tell us this would happen! Our little feet are chilly.
We keep on sinking deeper in! And then we look so silly!
Egg-laying time is coming up! I think it will be rough
Squatting down to lay an egg in all this funny stuff.
Mrs Nesbitt! Mrs Nesbitt! We're heading for the shed!
Did you say 'It looks so pretty!'?
Give us straw instead!

Chrissy Crisps

CHRISSY CRISPS

The colours of Christmas are red and green
So these tarts will be sure to enhance the scene.
Not only that but they'll add a bite
To revive your palate on Christmas night.
After all those fruity pies,
A savoury tang will be a surprise.
Tart cases first must be made or bought.
(I'm lazy; I use the commercial sort.)
Chilli jam may prove hard to find,
But Asian shops stock the nicest kind.
Put a dab of jam in each tart-case
Covering almost all the base.
Then take the goats cheese, be generous now,
(It's more tangy than cheese from a cow!)
Slice cherry tomatoes (red to the fore).
Pepper and salt!........ There's a knock at the door!
Be artistic! Add bay-leaf or mint
To add the Christmassy greenery hint.
One important thing to note about these
Is that pastry may soften with added cheese.
So prepare these treats only just before eating
It won't take long; they don't need heating.
Festive! Easy! What could be better
You're bound to receive a Thankyou Letter!

Pantomiming

PANTOMIMING!

An old, old photo from a time long-gone
When I used to kid myself that I could act!
Twenty years have passed since I donned this gaudy garb.
And the years are surely showing, that's a fact!
Here I am in pantomime, grinning ear to ear,
With an awful lot of lipstick on my lips!
With the two Ugly Sisters, my daughters, (well, they're male),
And an awful lot of padding round my hips.
Yes, I was the Wicked Step-Mother, the play was 'Cinderella',
And there's not much else about it I remember!
But it's good to be glancing back sometimes to Christmases gone by
When once again we find that it's December.

The Tower of Copenhagen

Written before the final communique, so I might be wrong!

THE TOWER OF COPENHAGEN!

In these days of wire and cable,
Clever people round a table,
I recall the Tower of Babel
And its sad demise.
Copenhagen has the feeling,
People talking, double dealing,
Lots of posing, little feeling,
Nonsense from the wise.
The Tower of Babel couldn't last;
They talked too much, they talked too fast,
It ended with them all aghast;
Nothing came of it.
After all the empty chatter,
Will they all just up and scatter,
And does the whole thing really matter?
Not one little bit!

How I listen too it all here:

Voice-Over!

Two children, some time in November, stayed at Grandma's for the night.
She gave them both a pen and paper and suggested that they write.
Later Jim was at the table, writing very hard because
It was coming-up for Christmas and he was writing to Santa Claus.
Sister Ginnie sat beside him; both of them were quite engrossed,
When Jim began to shout so loudly you could have heard him coast to coast!
'Dear Santa! Please bring me a skate-board!' he shouted out while writing still.
Sister Ginnie, interrupted, raised her head! If looks could kill!
'Why the shouting, Jim?' she asked him 'Santa isn't deaf! Gee whiz!'
'I know he isn't' Jim responded, 'But I know for certain Grandma IS!'

Old Days, Old Ways.

OLD DAYS, OLD WAYS.

'Ettie Yeo' wrote these words for Christmas
Over a hundred years ago.
She had them printed on Christmas cards
And sent them to people she happened to know.
Ettie-Beatrice was her full name,
The Mother of my Mother-in-law,
And so Great-Grandmother to my children,
But somebody they never saw.
So changed the language and the feeling!
Words like these now don't exist!
But when I read I sort of fancy
That I was on her Christmas List.
