Softening the Blow!

SOFTENING THE BLOW!

Hardly a work of art!
In a corner set apart.
Towels airing in the sun;
Just a chore and not much fun.
But, for softening the blow,
There's sun to shine and shade to throw.
Domestically, I am a slattern.
But I do respond to a pretty pattern!
*
By the way, the one that's grey
Is really meant to look that way!
*
Dire domesticity here:

One Man's Meat

COLOUR CARNIVAL

ONE MAN'S MEAT

'One man's meat is another man's poison!'
I've heard that said and I'm sure that it's true.
This sort of pattern does nothing for me!
It may be the last word in fashion for you!
I remember the seventies! Weren't they just awful!
The things that we wore were devoid of all taste!
The obvious colours competing for dominance!
The bright repeat-patterns we gladly embraced!
And now they've come back again! Can you believe it!
The High Street's awash with the same garish stuff.
I've lived long enough to see hist'ry repeated!
But the seventies! Surely just once was enough!
*

More of the roundabout of fashion here:

What a Shame!

SUNDAY SCRIBBLING
The pretty galah's feeling small!
It's beauty does no good at all!
The thing that has mattered
And made him feel shattered
Is driving him right up the wall!
*
Of all of the bright birds in Australia
And many have brilliant regalia
This poor bird is named
And horribly shamed
By the fact that he represents failure!
*
If I have a slight prang in my car
Or I step in a mess of wet tar
Any Aussie who's near
Will shout out loud and clear
'Well! Aren't you a proper galah!'
*
To be called a galah is not nice
(I've been called one myself once or twice!)
But this parrot, I think,
With its feathers of pink
Should certainly not pay the price!
*
* 'Galah' is pronounced 'gullar' with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Another birdie misunderstanding here:

Centaurama

SIMPLY SNICKERS

CENTAURAMA!

I can see myself in the firelight, the Old Crone begged for a tale,
Hunting for a brand new plot that simply cannot fail.
The firelight flickers on the faces of the little girls and boys;
They sit and listen to me with scarcely a breath or noise.
I've sat like this many evenings for that's what Old Crones do,
But I'm running out of material. I'm looking for something new.
I'm the only entertainment  2000 years BC;
I suddenly get inspiration! An idea comes to me!
I'll invent a curious creature , half  animal, half man,
Something no-one else has thought of ever since time began!
I consider a half-fish firstly but that idea doesn't gel

Half-fish.

So I then consider a half-snake but what tale could I tell?

Half-snake

I consider the computations; you see some of them below,

Possibility

But suddenly I feel inspired and I shout out 'I know!
A horse is strong and willing, whoever holds the reins,
And human-beings, as we all know, have huge remarkable brains!
Join the two and we will have a wise and powerful creature
Combining the best of everything, with every perfect feature!'
And so the children sit and gape at the exploits I invent,
And that is how our story-telling evenings then are spent.
But when the children have gone to bed, just for a good diversion
I tell the tales a second time, but I make-up an adult version!

X-rated!

I hear my stories are still told, down through the endless ages,
Centaurs feature in cinema and on the written pages.

Disney

Harry Potter

Narnia

I am the unknown creator of the Centaur myths of old.
Without my flickering firelight they'd none of them be told.

A linked topic here:

Avolet

KRAZY KITCHEN
AVOLET

An omelet is a healthy dish, it's light as any feather;
It's just the thing for a tasty snack when there is balmy weather.
But if something more substantial is called-for any time,
This rich and sinful omelet is quite wickedly sublime!
Beat eggs and milk and paprika, with seasoning, of course;
And the beating need not wear you out; you can use gentle force.
Heat oil in the frying-pan of course not over-fierce,
Pour in the mixture, remembering to take a fork and pierce.
Lower the heat. Allow the egg to form a well-cooked base;
This should take three minutes; it's quick, in any case.
Now comes the really sinful part, take dollops of cream cheese
And flop it across your omelet as thickly as you please.
Then lay sliced avocado across the omelet base,
But only half for, when you fold, it has to stay in place.
Roll over, briefly, omelet-wise, allowing the cheese to melt.
Isn't this the most delicious thing you've ever smelt?
Serve with hunks of crusty bread. The compliments you'll get
Will be sounding very much like this ......'I want more avolet!'

INGREDIENTS
4 eggs  ¼ cup milk  1 fresh avocado, sliced   4 tablespoons cream cheese
salt and pepper to taste   2 tablespoons vegetable oil  Paprika

A Thousand Blossoms

COLOUR CARNIVAL
http://colorcarnivalmeme.blogspot.com

A THOUSAND BLOSSOMS

A thousand blossoms fell today.
They lay there on the ground,
Still full-blown in a spring-like way
Though blemishes could be found.
Maybe the slightest tinge of brown,
Maybe a bruise or tear,
Maybe we saw them fluttering down
Looking neither rich nor rare.
There was nothing left for them to do
Except curl up and die.
*
But wait! Their beauty shines anew!
Admire, as you pass by!

Windscreen Wonder

SKYWATCH
http://skyley.blogspot.com/

WINDSCREEN WONDER

Homeward bound; night closing in.
Ears beset by the traffic's din.
Idly gazing at the sky,
Noticing the clouds on high.
Suddenly I saw the colour
Previously greyer, duller,
Change to a wondrous rose-pink shade,
Then to a deeper marmalade!
Then pink and orange caught on fire!
Just as the sun sought to retire.
Then clouds drew back to make a stage
For the sinking sun to fade to beige.
I felt that I should throw bouquets
At the sun's exhausted rays.
The clouds like curtains drew apart
As I applauded the work of art.
'The Dying Swan', I felt, should play!
Traffic noise faded, as did the day.
