Wheeee!

MOTION

WHEEEE!

Once I needed training wheels,
But now I know just how it feels.
Whizzing round and round the track,
Whizzing there and coming back.
This shot was taken months ago
When I was rather young and slow.
Now you should see me riding past,
All grown-up and very fast!
Soon I'll ride way out of sight
Maybe at the speed of light!
Bye-bye Grandma! I can't stay!
Boys move on.
Grandmas just stay.

THE PESSIMISTIC OPTIMIST.I wake up every morning with a dreadful sense of gloom
And I view the day as someone who is heading for the tomb!
Today, I'll surely break a leg or have a heart attack!
I'm certain, when I make the beds, I'll hurt my lower back!
*
Those stairs! They do look tricky! And I'm bound to take a fall!
Or I'll meet a home-invader! Yes, one's bound to make a call!
If I make a cup of coffee I'll be scalded, that's for sure!
And today's the day I'll trip up on that well-worn bit of floor.
*
A bus! One's bound to hit me, if I cross the city street!
And a mugger's sure to get me; it's a cinch that we will meet!
That tree-branch looks unsteady! Will it topple on my head?
Who knows, this time tomorrow I may be, untimely, dead!
*
My imagination pictures every peril known to man,
The world is full of obstacles and I'm an also-ran.
Life is full of trip-wires bound to trip up the unwary.
Let's face it! Life is very, very, very, very, scary!
*
But a pessimistic optimist (or should that be reversed?)
Who has struggled through each fearful day, escaping from the worst,
Earns a reward at bedtime. Then I snuggle in my bed,
Rejoicing that I've not been maimed! I'm not the least bit dead!
*
Then my spirit soars ecstatically to think I have survived!
That I've traveled through the mine-field and in one piece I've arrived.
I've looked Death in the eye and Death has cowered at my gaze.
I feel that 'Blessed of the Gods' is not an idle phrase.
*
I purr with my complacency, and my self-satisfaction.
Suddenly the coming day becomes the main attraction.
I pull the covers round me and I'm smiling as I say.
'I can't wait for tomorrow! Another lovely day!'

A Twirl and a Grimace

MOTION

A TWIRL AND A GRIMACE!

Not a violent movement,
Only a little twirl,
With eyes half-closed and slitty
And lips with a grotesque curl.
I was telling an anecdote
Obviously with emotion,
When Malcolm took this photograph
Of spectacle-twirling motion!

It really is one of the greatest  put-downs of all Cinematic Time!

MOVIE MOTIVATION!

'Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!'
That's Clark Gable of course,
Before he's turning on his heel
And leaping on his horse!
There's never been a closing line
More positively crushing!
Poor Vivien! She went quite pale,
When, before, she'd been sweetly blushing!
I've always longed to use those words,
With a flourish,  all devil-may-care,
And the other day friend Margie
Presented me with a dare.
'I dare you' she said 'To say those words
To the very first person you meet!
The very first one who speaks to you
In the shops or on the street!'
Well, I'm not one to turn my back
On a harmless bit of fun
So I said 'You're on! I'll use those words
Today! To the very first one!'
So off I set walking to the store
And who should I meet but Herb,
And, as he approached, he suddenly fell,
Tripping over the kerb.
'Help! Help!' he cried; an anguished cry!
I heard him plead and beg,
As he lay in the gutter at my feet
Nursing his broken leg.
It was all bent up beneath him,
It looked decidedly queer,
But I simply couldn't resist the chance
Of saying 'Frankly, my dear....'
'Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!'
I said with my head in the air.
It did look rather nasty,
But a dare is still a dare.
The ambulance siren was blazing;
He just lay there and bled!
Margie will be so pleased to hear
How well I kept my head!

Impromptu

IMPROMPTU!

MOTION
Who knows why they were dancing?
I only know that they danced!
I passed them on the waterfront
And I stood there,  quite entranced.
They were New Zealand tourists,
Over here for a spell,
Doing a Maori War Dance!
But why, I cannot tell!

MISLAID!

When you've lost an item do you always feel it's there
Laughing at you, scornfully, daring a sort of dare?
You know it's somewhere in the house, well, it just has to be,
That letter or that diamond ring, that video, that key!
You know you had it yesterday! You think you're going mad!
And that nasty 'thing's' malevolent! You know you're being 'had'!
You stand stock still, retrace your steps, try hard to keep your cool,
Knowing that 'thing' that you've mislaid is taking you for a fool.
You almost hear it chuckle! Is it underneath the bed?
No no no! Impossible! You try the bin instead!
You find you're talking to yourself out loud like some old freak!
You hear this crazy voice emerge..... 'I put it there last week!'
And what if you never find 'it'! It never leaves your brain!
It seems for all eternity you search and search again!
Not physically, but mentally, the search goes on and on!
It seems you'll never just relax and say 'Oh well, it's gone!'
Meanwhile, the 'thing' has beaten you! It's got the upper hand!
Everything has turned out just exactly as it planned!
When you've lost an item do you always feel it's there
Laughing at you, scornfully, daring a sort of dare?

Twitching Toes!

TWITCHING TOES!

The toes are twitching, that I see;
The jaws are hard at work.
But the rest of the body is quite relaxed,
Not even the slightest jerk!
This is relaxation
To the enth degree.
I think I'll try this position
Next time I'm eating my tea!

Go! Go!

GO! GO!

In the park across the way
There is ample room to play.
But not an awful lot of breeze
Ruffling the nearby trees.
Harry's trying hard to fly
His brand new kite way, way up high.
But it's something he can't master!
Twirl and flop!
Complete disaster!

Revenge!

MOTION

REVENGE!
Faster than a speeding bullet!
Little fella finds his feet!
Big boy in his sights! Go get him!
At any age revenge is sweet.

A much gentler game here:
