GRATEFUL FOR GREEN

Woodland, copse, jungle, forest.

Trees

Bushes,

Shrubs,

Grass.

*

Green.

*

Maybe it is a harking-back

To our origins,

When we swung between the branches

By our tails!

*

I only know a yearning for Green

Is in our souls.

*

I am not sure about Climate Change.

Is anyone 100% certain?

*

But I am certain about

The removal of forests.

*

The rape of the Giant Red Cedar

In Australia

Is a case in point.

*

*

The Eucalypt is charming;

It's bark is attractive;

It suits the climate.

It revives almost immediately

After burning.

*

But the Red Cedar

Was a majestic tree.

It was also ideal for Ships' masts,

And for furniture.

*

*

So, in our area, at least,

It has disappeared!

*

Let me quote...

'There is a specimen in Adelaide Botanical Gardens'.

*

Enough said.

*

I want my grandchildren to know Green.

Not just in New South Wales

But

In Indonesia

and

The Amazon.

*

I want them to fit-in

To my opening picture.

And not have to live with our regret.
