Grateful for Green

GRATEFUL FOR GREEN

Woodland, copse, jungle, forest.
Trees
Bushes,
Shrubs,
Grass.
*
Green.
*
Maybe it is a harking-back
To our origins,
When we swung between the branches
By our tails!
*
I only know a yearning for Green
Is in our souls.
*
I am not sure about Climate Change.
Is anyone 100% certain?
*
But I am certain about
The removal of forests.
*
The rape of the Giant Red Cedar
In Australia
Is a case in point.
*

*
The Eucalypt is charming;
It's bark is attractive;
It suits the climate.
It revives almost immediately
After burning.
*
But the Red Cedar
Was a majestic tree.
It was also ideal for Ships' masts,
And for furniture.
*
*
So, in our area, at least,
It has disappeared!
*
Let me quote...

'There is a specimen in Adelaide Botanical Gardens'.
*

Enough said.
*
I want my grandchildren to know Green.
Not just in New South Wales
But
In Indonesia
and
The Amazon.
*
I want them to fit-in
To my opening picture.
And not have to live with our regret.
*

I would lvoe to see a little green outside someplace. We're still covered with snow.

It's sad to see the demise of so mny trees, which had already outlived the life of a mere mortal.

The picture is so refreshing from us who are still covered with snow.

Beautiful pictures of green, - sad about the demise of some species of trees though. Love the picture of the children by the stream, and, as always, your lovely way with words.

i have read about these trees and their struggle. So sad to lose something so marvelous!

They're falling all over the world.

Did you know that the word green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, “to grow”?

Was just reading of the history on the Eucalyptus...! But nothing mentioned of the Cedars, hmmmm...

I fear for our world's greenery.

I did green, too, though a different path.

Your point is well taken- our world remains green only if we invest in it. Individually, and as a community of caring, committed writers and activists.

Mine is up!
