R.I.P. Wally

R.I.P. WALLY

He sang almost to the end.

He was over ninety
And still singing
To the 'Old Folk'.

We were 'Lemon Drops' together.

He was always immaculate.
Always the perfect gentleman.

I shall treasure the little gifts
He gave us all at Christmas Time.
The hand-cream,
 The scarves.

His voice continued robust
Long after the frailty of his body became obvious.
He would have trouble getting out of his seat;
 Sometimes he would have trouble
Remembering his words......
But his rich baritone voice
Charmed us all,
And we willed him to succeed.

So long as he could sing
He felt he kept death at bay.

He was Australian through and through,
Yet it is his rendition of 'Old Father Thames'
 That will live with me.

I missed his funeral.

I publish this obituary
In his honour.

Dear old Wally.

Thta's a lovely memorial for him.
I was reading it when the Beatles Yesterday started to play. Very appropriate Brenda.

I don't know Wally - if Brenda likes him then he must've been really good :)
