262. Yaks' Tracks

A little homily for children.

The ABC WEDNESDAY letter this week is 'Y'.

See my PLUS blog for a 'Y' photograph.

YAKS' TRACKS.

The track of a yak is natural,
The trail of a snail is neat,
The marks are found
On the unspoilt ground
Where they've slithered or pressed their feet.

The trail of a snail is washed-out
By the gently falling rain.
The track of a yak
Will not come back
Till he walks that way again.

But  the trails of the human-beings
Are the ugliest trails I've seen
We leave our marks
On the fields and parks
And you can't miss where we've been.

There are cartons and tins and papers;
There is rubbish of every kind;
There is broken glass
On the shining grass
As we leave our track behind.

And no gentle rain can wash it,
And no time can make it fade.
They will still be found
On the ruined ground,
Those marks that our kind has made.

Yet once our world was pristine.
We want that old world back.
Make up your mind
Leave nothing behind,
And learn from the snail and yak.

Wise wise words Brenda.
If only we humans could learn from the insects and animals what a wonderful world it would be.

Very fitting Y and an animal I would have liked to see.

PS The song is not about drugs - that is an urban legend. It really was meant as a children's song.

Again a very wise poem! Thank you! Thanks too for the compliment about my brain, being young! Well I am afraid that reality is different. I forget names. But blogging keeps us young, I think.

Another rhymer, at last! Hello, like minded person on the other side of the world, thanks to Bear's introduction... The Brighton Line trains are still rattling their way along the southcoast, and indeed, my post on Monday inspired me whilst riding in one of them, before I retired. (Though to be fair, they hum rather than rattle these days;
thinks:- Yakketty Yak, Yakkety Yak, Yakketty Yak...
