The Blue Beyond

BLACK AND WHITE

THE BLUE BEYOND

Beyond the window lies the lake,
All ruffled by the breeze,
But beauty's taking second place
For diners, such as these.
The menu comes, they cogitate,
And everybody talks,
Of burgers, steaks and sandwiches,
And even knives and forks!
To see them so engrossed with food
Is pitiful enough,
But more so for a girl like me
Who's made of finer stuff.
My mind is on the blue beyond,
Stretching across the way.
I'm thinking 'poetry' and 'song'
While they have feet of clay.
But the rumblings of my 'inner man'
I simply can't escape......
'Pass me the menu, someone, please;
I think I'll have a crepe!'

THE PROCESS

If I take a ball of plasticine and knead it with my hand
It can take on a different shape, a new one I have planned.
And if I'm disenchanted with the shape I've now produced,
I can try repeatedly, till a new form's introduced.
To Nature, Earth is plasticine, reformable and plastic;
Experiments from eras past seem incredibly fantastic.
Try an Ice-Age form, then melt the snows, allowing something green;
Cleanse the earth of dinosaurs; let some other shape be seen.
And is the Earth a boring shape? Allow it to crack and crease.
Knead it, knead it, more and more. The changes never cease.
As for the little midgets, that think they are so grand,
They are less than nothing when they're held in Nature's hand.
And should they  slip between the cracks and get buried in the mass
There will be no-one to notice it and utter a last 'Alas!'

The Loneliness

WE WRITE POEMS
asked us to emulate Wordsworth and his daffodils!

THE LONELINESS
(Of the superior shopper)

I wander lonely as a blob
That drifts among the surging throng.
Around me people hob and nob
And somehow I do not belong.
I feel removed from riff and raff;
I feel superior, yes I do!
While some may make a social gaffe,
I'm from the planet Xanadu.
A shopping-centre is the place
For isolation at its best,
Humanity seems oh so base
And yet I am not like the rest.
The prams and bags and shuffling feet
Of other mortals shopping-bent,
Make me feel lonely yet complete.
I'm an on-looker, and content.

PERPETUAL MOTION!

A little boy is 'sitting still', watching a video.
But, in the way of all little boys, he still is 'on the go'.
Scratch and wriggle, writhe and squirm,
Exactly like a wriggly worm!
No wonder he sleeps like a log at night,
Wriggling over! Out like a light!

Are You In the Red?

RUBY TUESDAY

ARE YOU IN THE RED?

Here's a list of questions that we really need to ask,
And, hopefully, for most of us, it's quite a pleasant task.......
*
Did you wake-up this-morning feeling reasonably well?
Have you escaped the anguish of a battle's raging hell?
Have you stayed out of prison? Have you got enough to eat?
Have you clothes upon your back? Have you shoes upon your feet?
Can you read this blog quite easily? Do you know how to write?
Will you have a roof above your head when you go to sleep tonight?
Have you got money in the bank? Did your parents stay together?
Will you be protected if there is rainy weather?
And can you speak your mind without a thought of who may hear?
And can you state your viewpoint in a voice that's loud and clear?
*
If you say 'Yes!' to all of these don't winge at all today!
Not even if you've twinges and your hair is turning grey!
Not even if you stub your toe or smash a favourite dish!
Not even if your steak is not as tender as you'd wish!
*
For many many millions would have to answer 'No!'
And those many many millions every second seem to grow!
Go through the list a second time, and add 'No' as a test,
Then ask yourself if you're among the folk who're living best!
Let's not forget that we, the ones who're cossetted and warm,
Are not in the majority; we're, sadly, not the norm.
We can't cure all the ills of life, and do we really try?
But it doesn't hurt to pause a while and simply question 'Why?'

ODE TO A FLYING FISH
A Sonnet

Thy gaiety enchants us as we see
Thy silver body flashing through the air.
Thou seemst a creature quite devoid of care,
At home in both the sky and in the sea!
And yet thy spirit languishes I know.
A heart divided never can know peace,
Condemned forever to the depths below,
While yearnings for the ether never cease.
A flash of blue is all thou art allowed.
The sweet fresh air experienced as a puff.
A second soaring high above the crowd,
But is a second ever long enough?
Oh Flying Fish! Thou art expression of
The agony of a divided love.

Copycat

BLUE MONDAY

COPYCAT

I don't think they're feeling 'blue',
For their cares are very few,
But here are cousins on a bus
(Something everyday for us,
But you know how young boys are....
Always riding in a car.)
What I most like looking at
Is the little Copycat!
Big Cousin folds his arms just so,
So that is how boys' arms should go.
One is five and one thirteen
So there are many years between.
Hero-worship on display,
When we went out on the bus one day.
*
The seats are blue so I've can't resist
Including it in the Blue Monday list!

SPLASH!

SPLASH!

Riding down from the Atherton Tablelands
In a little tourist train
We passed so close to the waterfall
That it's drops felt just like rain.

After the Effort

THREE WORD WEDNESDAY
http://www.threewordwednesday.com/
'bloody, kinky, tender'

AFTER THE EFFORT

After the effort the baby appears,
Looking  all squashed and covered in smears.
Its face is wrinkled, its expression sour;
Parts are covered in a wet white flour.
Its hair is kinky with dubious glue;
Its face is bloody, its lips are blue.
The word 'attractive' doesn't spring to mind.
It would be easy to be unkind
And say 'Oh dear! The poor little thing!
What an object for the stork to bring!'
But the Mother looks with a tender gaze
And the Mother's words are full of praise.....
Casting her eyes in the child's direction,
'Oh!' she sighs, 'Isn't that perfection!'

ADAM ANT

Adam Man with all his wit
Took a thousand years (and a little bit)
To create a skyscraper of size
Capable of scraping skies.
Adam Ant, a lowly creature,
Created, easily, this feature,
Using instinct for a guide
Then busily anted-away inside!
He didn't have to contemplate
Before he started to fabricate!
I find this very odd disparity
A very strange peculiarity!
Big-brained Adam Man out-done
By an insect, a little one!
Maybe we are not as wise
As something a millionth of our size!

Embellished

                    Brenda Bryant

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY

EMBELLISHED

From the start it was embellished  with iron-work galore;
Nobody imagined it would attract much more!
There were circles, there were leaf-shapes, there were spiky bits and scrolls,
And a rather geometric part with lots of cross-shaped holes.
But seagulls came to perch on it to add something it lacked,
And then, behold, the shadows thought they'd get into the act!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

All is ease and all is pleasure,
Relaxation beyond measure
On the waterfront in the sun,
When the working week is done.
Monday looms, but a day away.
Let's pretend things will stay this way.

MORE AMORE!

A Caliph with multiple wives
Said 'I need one with multiple lives!'
Said a servant 'That's fine!
Here is one that has nine!
And her claws will make sure she survives!'
