Look Thy Last

SKYWATCH

LOOK THY LAST

Look thy last on all things lovely,
As the clouds consume the sky.
As the final shaft of brilliance
Dazzles and delights the eye.
Wait now for the black and purple,
Rolling up in bounteous mounds;
Wait now for the flash of lightning
And the thunder's following sounds.
Paint a picture of the blueness
On the canvas of your mind.
Save it in your heart's recesses
As dark leaves the day behind.

*
The title is taken from the work of one of my favourite poets, Walter de la Mare.

OOPS!
(Rather a heartless response to a microfiction prompt!)

They had been playing in the leaves, Suzie and little John.
Suddenly she'd pushed him! Suddenly he was gone!
Rolling down the leafy bank right into the water!
She's off to tell her Mum and Dad they now only have a daughter!
