Yorick

YORICK!

'Alas poor Yorick!' .......a famous line! From 'Hamlet' I believe.
Said by an actor holding a skull, just before we hear him grieve.
Shakespeare's scene is moving, but the phrase has been debased,
Often comedians use it, and not in the best of taste!
Yorick was Court Jester, when Hamlet was a boy.
He used to play games with the little child, which they both used to enjoy.
When Hamlet finds his rotting skull he speaks of the end of life.
His grief is very real and strong and cuts him like a knife.
Here is Sir Lawrence Olivier, an actor of great fame,
Mourning Yorick's departure and calling out his name.

COMETS
(An Acrostic)

Careering across the night-black sky!
Open-mouthed we watch them fly!
Mystic objects from deep space,
Enjoyed, yet feared, by the human race.
Terrifying, yet a thrill.
Superstition is with us still!

PS

We gave a choir concert yesterday at a Nursing Home. Obviously we were hitting the high notes at this juncture.

I have always been a fan of Sir Lawrence Olivier. Quite an actor.

My church has a choir called themselves the Warblers which I presume is a bird which sing well. Sometimes, some naughty people tease them to be wobblers. They too visit rest homes and sing beautifully, just like your photo.

Alas, I too have mocked the Bard; it's too easy. In my high school yearbook, someone is holding a deer skull with that text superimposed.

For me, Sir Lawrence stole every scene he was ever in. He didn't mean to,he was just such an incredible actor I couldn't take my eyes off him.

Alas, poor Yorick, being used by comedians in poor taste.
Yes, wasn't Olivier just amazing? Actors of his calibre don't come along very often.
Your choir photo reminds me how much my parents and their fellow residents enjoyed the music of visiting singers and musicians. Care facility staffs everywhere welcome such visitors, especially if they sing well-known old songs.
