FAIR EXCHANGE
It was hard to leave the Cape with its soaring mountain tops,
Those towering over Cape Town, the peaks, the dizzying drops;
And the Hottentots Holland Mountains, rising beyond the trees
In Somerset West, our 'hometown'; which had views very much like these.
South Africa had beaches and beautiful vineyards too,
And a quite delicious climate, so the sky was often blue.
*
But
It was good to arrive in New South Wales to find Lake Macquarie there!
No high mountains, but such beauty that I didn't really care!
The lakes are broad and tranquil, we wander round the shore,
Never thinking of the mountain peaks we loved so much before.
Australia has beaches and beautiful vineyards too,
And a quite delicious climate, so the sky is often blue.
*
'As one door closes.....' the saying goes. We have found it to be so.
There's beauty in this lovely world wherever one may go.

RAIN SONGS
The song of the rain in Autumn
Is the sound of the falling leaves
And the small birds that shelter
Underneath the eaves.
The song of the rain in Winter
Is the sound of the distant snow
As the chill from the icy mountains
Reaches us below.
The song of the rain in Springtime
Is a bright and happy tune
The city grows ever greener
On a rainy afternoon.
But the song of the rain in Summer
Is the loveliest song of all
As we lift up our hot, dry faces
And let blessings fall.

nature, ocean, open space, wow.
love these...u make me speechless...
divine talent,
thanks for sharing!
And both places produce very good, inexpensive wines! European wines went out the window for me long ago and California wines are varied, but spot a bottle with a kangaroo on it, or a south African stripe, and it is on the table here!
...There's beauty in this lovely world wherever one may go...
...true indeed...definitely enjoy your words.
"Rain songs" just brilliant.

So true...those who open their eyes see beauty.
You rhymes are delightfully done...kudos!
Lovely, and I mean lovely.
What a beautiful song of rain! The rhythm was beautiful, too.
Brenda, I'm here belatedly from potluck. I read your bio. Fabulous. You managed to pack a lot of movement into a few short lines.
Delighted with your desciptions and your poem. Can visualize all clearly. And the rain poem is so very welcome, not only because it's good but because we are having a heatspell here (Northern California, USA) and your "rain" was a delightful relief.
Nice work. Nice blog. Poem on... :-)
Australia...home to me, your words reminded me how much it is home. Lovely to read. But your 'rain' poem is just gorgeous...very well penned.
Look forward to reading more Potluck from you. :)
There are really lots of beautiful places in the world and the one you describe in your piece is among the many great places. Your poem captured perfectly the beauty of the world. Love it.
