'MESS'
ABC WEDNESDAY letter 'U'

UNTIDY!
I yearn to be sorted and tidy;
But I haven't achieved it yet!
The surface is fine
But those cupboards of mine
Are something I'd rather forget!
*
I dash round the house like a whirlwind
Just shoving things out of the way!
'Out of sight, out of mind'
Is a maxim I find
Describes me at the start of each day.
*
If visitors call I impress them
With a house that looks shiny and clean
But it's all a facade!
And if they looked hard
They'd see just a table-top sheen!
*
The towels always fall in a muddle
When I'm pulling the bottom one free!
And how did that vase
Muddle-up with jam-jars?
And that isn't the spot for my key!
*
Hypocrisy rules in my household
It just isn't tidy like yours!
I must be explicit....
I'm pleased if you visit
But don't open-up any drawers!
*

GUMSHOE
(An Acrostic suggested by Acrostics Only)
Guessing..... as a foreigner..... that gumshoe means 'detective'.
Unless, of course, Google's got it wrong (but is it ever defective?);
Masculine Humphrey Bogart was certainly one of these;
Sultry and mysterious, but always sure to please.
However, were his shoes soft-soled? That hasn't been made plain.
Obviously I must look when I see his films again.
Every country has it's slang; this was unknown to me.
But, if we were all alike, how boring it would be!

You could have written that about my house! Out of sight, out of mind!
I agree, as the magnet on my fridge says, you can admire the dust but please dont write in it :P
How I enjoyed your Mess poem. I am sure so many of us have been there. Occasionally there is a mad scramble when there is knock of the door to hide the "bits" we don't want people to see.
I saw the title and it CALLED to me!
Ah, love it! Definitely called to me, too! I'm so relieved to see there are so many of us!!! I'm not alone! Great, funny post for the day and the photo is priceless! Thanks for a great laugh on a gray day!
Sylvia
Oh ouch...My drawers and sometimes the closet could be the example for this poem.
Good stuch...thanks.
My house, too! You've captured a universal. Excellent work.
there's Liz Taylor movie where she says, 'WHAT A DUMP!' WHEN THE WIFE'S AWAY, YOU'D BE AMAZED HOW QUICKLY THE HOUSE GETS MESSY
ROG, ABC Wednesday
Don't all creative people have messy cupboards and drawers, or have I been living under an illusion????
I'll bet there are many of us - love your humor and topic for this U.
My house is the exact opposite: my wardrobes and cupboards are nice and tidy and everything else is messy.
I need a cleaner!
I can really relate to your line about towels, my linen cupboard is a disgrace. Great poem.

I love the poem and the picture! One man's untidy is another's "lived in".
Your standards must be very high. The photo shows a rather tidy room lol, just don't go into my daughter's room.
u r funny and smart.
the picture made me laugh! I don't see a mess when all around is cats and books - looks like a bit of paradise to me!
Ahem, my closet. Yes, well we won't talk about that will we...
I really love this poem and the photo of the man and the cat!
You have touched on a great and hidden problem that many people don't want to talk about or admit.
My house is like Mara's: messy on the surface with well-ordered cupboards and drawers. But I am married to a man who wants the opposite: he wants it to look nice on the surface, but doesn't care that he can't find anything.
We are having problems!
Best wishes,
Anna
