I'm not presenting prizes for the answer to this quiz!
Everybody understands exactly where it is.
But do you know the reason for the kangaroo's creation?
Do you understand why he belongs to just one nation?
Australia was in Gondwanaland, in prehistoric days,
And then the continents drifted, going their separate ways.
India and Africa drifted to different places,
Giving rise to peoples of completely different races.
Australia, as we call it, stayed in splendid isolation,
Giving rise to creatures of a quite unique creation.
Surrounded by the ocean, there was never any mixture;
Marsupials and such became accepted as a fixture.
We share some creatures with others; that is completely true;
In South America you will find that there are quite a few.
But the kangaroo is just unique; that's why he's a special star.
In South America you will find that there are quite a few.
But the kangaroo is just unique; that's why he's a special star.
So he's living in a country that is equally bizarre!

I wrote this very over-the-top poem when I was about twenty! The sad thing is that I can't remember who it was about!
IMPERFECTION!
This ache is not only that of parting....
That agonised red rose
Flowering somewhere beneath my ribs....
That would be easy to bear.
I would wallow in such pain.....
It would close over my head
And drown me completely
And I would die of it.
This is not so easy to bear.
It is the motto, the knowledge, the civilised truth,
The green worm in the rose.
It is the fact that I shall not be faithful!
I shall recover.
You will not care..... you have never cared.
But I will know that I am shallow
And cannot love enough.

Kangaroos are unique, and so are a few of your other unusual creatures. They are loveable, though, and say "Australia" to everyone.
As to your other poem, I suspect the poet has matured and deepened over time!
After reading your post I then realize that yes kangaroo is only in Australia!! And the drifting and separating of continents are somewhat the reason of it all. Very interesting and I love this kind of information.
As for the poem it makes me smile...because I feel that if I wrote that poem that could be for somebody whom I care much. ^_^
Happy Monday!

My kids loved it.
The trouble is no Aussie I spoke to know about this. Do you know?
I hope you will remember who you wrote the poem for. He/she must be important at that time.
Kangaroos and koalas are always reminding me of Australia. Thanks for the info :)
I like your poem...
Fun post -- both parts! At least you have the poem to remember what it was like back in the day! And aren't you glad life is less dramatic now?
I'd love to visit Australia. Nice shots for Mellow Yellow Monday!
