Forty Years On!

Circa 1970
Rebecca and Greg

FORTY YEARS ON!

Why publish a faded photograph which isn't up to much?
Let's say it could well have done with a proper photographer's touch!
Well, it all began with 'trousers' and Max at Xmas Time;
Looking at Max brought on this picture and its little rhyme.
Max wears the 'long shorts' that are 'in', reaching way below the knee
And he never looked much like his Dad, leastwise, not to me.

Max, Greg's son.

But on Xmas Morning he appeared in pyjamas on the street,
And, dressed in little boxer shorts, he looked very sweet.
Suddenly I was transported to a time long, long ago
When shorts always ended above the knee and never down below.

That look!

Suddenly Max and Gregory (yes, that's him, the watchful Dad)
Were linked by navy-blue T-shirts and the 'boxers' that they had.
*
Some things never change, though. Greg still looks sour as sour
When a certain maternal photographer has him in her power!
And Rebecca, the big sister, still does her best to smile
And Max still looks adorable whatever the fashion style.
*

Greg actually smiling at the camera here:

Wonderful images, the past and the present. There is something in the family ties, the resemblances that stir such deep feelings.

When I saw this in my reader, I thought I'd lost a picture! The younger one here looks a lot like me own little brother, 'e does...

This is a delightful post and a very cute and nostalgic poem! What a lovely family you have, and what a clever thought about the shorts. I,too, remember when they never came below the knee. If they did, they were called "bermuda shorts".
