I feel sure the 'This Little Piggy Went to Market' nursery-rhyme, which involves the counting of the toes, must be universally known by English-speaking people. I thought this twist on it, read the other day, was rather sweet.
IDENTIFICATION!
A grandmother's minding her grandson
And he's playing out in the yard.
'Ouch!' he cries as he kicks a stone,
Unintentionally…. hard!
Howls and screaming rend the air
And Grandma rushes out.
He's done himself a damage,
She hasn't any doubt.
'Where have you hurt yourself, my love?
Show me where it's sore!
Grandma will kiss it better
Then it wont hurt any more.'
He holds up a foot,still sobbing
And quite engulfed by grief.
'It's my toe' he cries, amid hiccups;
'It's the one that eats roast beef!'
