I like to change the spelling of the name of my home suburb. It was actually named after a mining magnate named Merewether (same pronunciation) in the days when it was a coal-mining village. But it is such a joyous place to live that I think the name Merry Weather suits it best. (Though the weather isn't merry all the time!) Malcolm and I used to walk to the baths on the beach for a swim before breakfast each day for many years, but we've got a little lazy of late. I would like to be able to say that the illustration is a photograph taken from my own balcony, but I fear our house is one of the lower ones.
There are more shots of my favourite place on my Clickpicks Blog.
MERRY WEATHER
Merewether Morning
And the temperature is rising.
The surfers top the surging waves
With movements quite surprising.
Pelicans and seagulls swoop across
And travel on.
I feel a Merewether Morning coming on.
Merewether Morning
And the atmosphere is lazy.
Ships on the horizon
Looking smudged and sort of hazy.
Everywhere on earth but this
Is dull and woebegone.
I feel a Merewether Morning coming on.
Merewether Morning
And the baths are full of splashing.
Out beyond the wall the waves
Are rushing in and crashing.
It almost seems the worries of the world
Have upped and gone.
I feel a Merewether Morning coming on.
Merewether Morning
And the little ones are romping,
Building castles in the sand
They've only made for stomping.
It seems this is a heaven
Where the sun has always shone.
I feel a Merewether Morning coming on.
Merewether Morning
Dolphin fins are barely showing.
Somewhere in the distant sea
A whale is busy blowing.
This will be a memory
That I'll look back upon.
I feel a Merewether Morning coming on.
Forget about your Shangri-La
Ignore old Babylon.
For I am where the good things are
And the morning's coming on.

Hi Rinkly!
I do enjoy your rimes.
I've never seen a whale blowing.
Would love to though.
Hi Brenda! Thanks for your visit to my blog, which will be dedicated to my visit to Australia. I have a daughter living there and two of her children are half aboriginal, for her first husband is Aboriginal of the Guugu Yimithirr tribe, like Willie Gordon the guide in my slide. My daughter is writing a book about this tribe and all the hardships they had to endure during the 2nd worldwar.
I like your poem!
Brenda, a lovely poem. You inspire me, I should start writing poetry again. I did so as a teenager but not any more.

Merewether Mornings sound lovely.
Thanks for sharing.
