MOVE OVER MARLENE!
This parody should spoken and sung in the unmistakable tones of the great Marlene Dietrich. The song 'Falling in Love Again' are well-known.
(Spoken Introduction)I used to be a little mouse,
Scurrying round my dirty house,
Looking for fluff beneath the double bed.
I'd scuttle up and down the stairs
Searching for those stray grey hairs,
And viewing every speck of dust with dread.
And then, like a lightning flash,
I learned how to be more rash.
The answer simply could not have been plainer!
I'd don a suspender belt!
In fishnets I'd look so svelte!
I'd dress up as that legendary Marlene!
To the tune of 'Falling in Love Again'
Washing the floors again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Windows unt doors again, till they look like new.
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Cobwebs unt mildew keep coming! What a shame!
And, if they linger, I'm really not to blame.
Washing the floors again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Scouring the pans again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Cleaning the cans again! Rubbish stuck like glue!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Gravy unt custard keep clinging for dear life!
Though I attack them with wire-wool unt a knife!
Scouring the pans again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Washing the socks again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Pajamas unt frocks again, till they look like new!
What am I to do? I can't help it!
Undies unt shirt tails, a never-ending flow!
Stains by the dozen, above and down below!
Washing the socks again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!

What am I to do? I can't help it!

Stains by the dozen, above and down below!
Washing the socks again, never wanted to!
What am I to do? I can't help it!

Hi Brenda, I enjoyed reading the parody. The household work has become less cumbersome than before because of all modern gadgets and technological advances. Men are able to contribute more because of these comforts. Else I am sure it would have been the same story today too.
(btw I have added you to my blog roll. :) )
Read this post right before I went to bed and spent almost an hour with that tune in my head.
And woke up with it still there.
Thanks a lot Brenda. LOL

Guten nacht, Brenda, Leibling! Thanks for the Honorable Mention. I can tell your loyal fans that 'Marlene' has been my signature song at almost every party or variety show I've been in since we first performed with The Minstrels in what seems like a quarter of a century ago. I really should learn a few more from this blog, especially The Chastity Belt which I used to love you doing. All the best....By the way, the music is great, too. Love, Wendy
Love that refrain. It really works well with household chores!
my monkey reads you well
And don't forget to aboard the Poetry Train every Monday mornings and thereafter!
Oh Brenda. That is funny and clever. As you know I am a cleaner, and a Mum. This is my life. Hahaha.
I love all the playfulness in your poem, but I gotta admit, I live alone and the housework gets done as I am moved to it. No gotta do, here, tomorrow is just fine.

Oh just brilliant, i sang all the way through the second one ... I just loved unt! LOL
a great boredom beater :D
would love to be that incharge :D
better clean than careful
What a delight this was even to Marlene's inability to pronounce "and", with it coming out as "unt".
i simply love reading you !!!
You're a genius, Brenda.

For some reason I now have this image of Marlene Dietrich in one of her exquisite gown singing these lyrics, maybe it's the lateness of the hour. Good one!
Dang....that's what I've been doing all week....washing the floors again. You must be one of those psychics?!!!
Have a great Thursday filled with your theme song of choice!! Don't forget to add the link to the themesong site somewhere.
What a great parody!!!
I have a sultry, smoky picture of Marlene in my mind's eye...

Can you ask Marlene to rescue me from the mess in my house?
