Wickedness

WICKEDNESS
(A Haiku)

Wickedness is bad
And yet wickedness is fun
We wrestle with it

DIGITAL DREAMING

In days gone by the little children
Gazed at picture-books.
They could tell an artist's work
By the artificial looks.
I never, for one moment, puzzled
Over illustrations;
They were, clearly, quite unreal,
Portraying situations
Which pretended to happen in Fairyland,
Or underneath the sea.
A line was very clearly drawn
Between them and reality.
Now, however, the fantasies
Seem like the genuine article;
The digitisation has progressed
To every little particle,
So that only an adult can, at once,
Recognise the sleight of hand;
We seem to have an era
Of reality on demand.
But I wonder about the children,
The ones of three or four,
Who gaze at videos and such,
Which most of them adore.
Take the picture up above;
It appears to speak the truth,
And I wonder how I'd have looked at it
If I'd seen it in my youth.
Would I have seen a photograph
Of somebody in mid-air
Held up by a bright bunch of balloons,
Seemingly dangling there?
And would I have thought it possible,
A delightful thing to do,
And would I have thought that, one day,
I'd like to do it too?
Imagination is wonderful,
To be encouraged in all,
But I worry about the children;
How do they see it all?

A Bridge

 A BRIDGE

Not of earth or sky
A bridge allows us to be
Elevated yet secure

WAKE-UP CALL!

On his death-bed Arthur lay, all still and white
And they doubted if he'd even last the night.
Neighbour, Family and Friend
Said 'Poor Arthur! It's the end!'
For his chances of recovery were slight.

Then he smelt a quite familiar kitchen-smell!
It was something he remembered very well!
A cookie smell for sure!
It came wafting through the door!
A smell that all through life had rung a bell!

Arthur stirred himself and rose up in his bed;
'I must eat a final cookie!' Arthur said,
And he shuffled down the hall
Keeping steady by the wall,
Hanging on to life by just the merest thread!

In the kitchen, though his hand began to shake,
He decided which hot cookie he would take;
But his wife's voice rent the air.....
'Arthur Hudson! Don't you dare!
Don't you think of touching those! They're for the wake!'

Morning Dew

CHEVREFEUILLES HAIKU BLOG

MORNING DEW
(A Haiku)

A gift from the night
Jewels scattered on the grass
Soon to disappear

and
An Acrostic for good measure because I felt like it!

MORE MORNING DEW

Magical moisture from the sky
On the grass see the dewdrops lie
Rippling as the breezes blow
Night-time's gift to us below.
Iridescent pearls that shimmer
Numberless drops that gleam and glimmer
Gaily dancing see them appear.
*
Dewdrops! Each like a tiny tear
Evening does not boast such treasures;
Welcome to one of life's morning pleasures.

ONE OR THE OTHER

In heat or chill our world will end;
Some day, we know not when.
We only know that it will die.
It will be all over then.
We puny little human things
Will burn or we will freeze;
The deserts will take-over,
Or else the icy seas.
The final leaves that drift on down
Will be brown and scorched and charred,
Or else they will be shards of ice,
Brittle and blue and hard.
By red or white we'll be consumed,
As though we have never been,
So let us cherish what we have,
Rejoicing in the green.

Puzzlement

BLUE MONDAY

PUZZLEMENT

So China sets about making things
And does it with a will!
But I've a funny feeling
There's been a bit of over-kill!
By manufacturing everything
And paying workers poorly
China's affected other countries
And they've suffered sorely.
Factories have closed down
In countries in the West.
'Let's leave it all to the Chinese
Because they do it best.'
But all the millions of unemployed
Have little money to spend!
And that is bound to hurt
The Chinese people in the end.
If noone buys the Chinese goods
Exports will simply stop
And then the Chinese wages
Will drop and drop and drop.
We sink or swim together,
Co-operation's best.
It's no good being self-centred
And ruining all the rest.
I know nothing of finance;
My case may not be strong.
But it seems to me that, somewhere,
We've got the whole thing wrong!

PROMISE
(A Haiku)

Now we see the sky
And the green grace of the leaves.
Soon will come the grapes.

PS
Rebecca and her husband and son spent a lovely day at Jimmy's Beach earlier in the week. She took a lovely set of photos, which it is a joy to share.

Brian's private Paradise

Good to be alive.

Sand between Blake's toes.
Breeze-blown Rebecca.
Playing porpoises.
Bliss for Banjo.

Meadows

CHEVREFEUILLE
chose this haiku topic

MEADOWS

Fields are merely fields
Meadows are graciously green
And stretch for ever

CHARMING!

Snake-charming is an ancient art
That you must approach with care.
A snake-charmer in a jungle
Had better, indeed, beware.
If you take your flute and play it
Where the jungle leaves are green,
You may get more than you bargain for,
Even though snakes can't be seen.
As soon as you play the first note
The snakes will raise their heads,
Darting out tongues with interest
As they laze in their leafy beds.
Slowly they'll lift their bodies,
Sinuously and then hiss,
In their special  reptile language
'Brothers! What is this?'
As you play your initial number,
They'll all decide to meet,
And, sliding through the jungle,
They'll end up at your feet.
At first you'll be delighted
That you  are playing well,
And that an entire population
Is under your musical spell.
You'll even enlarge your repertoire
Moving on to a jig,
Not noticing that the crowd of snakes
Is growing rather big!
Soon you'll be surrounded
By an absolute multitude,
And every snake has one thing in mind...
'Let's taste this strange new food!'
I wont go into details about your horrible demise!
Let's just say that charming snakes
Can prove to be unwise!
