You Are Here!

RUBY TUESDAY

YOU ARE HERE!

For most of our lives we concentrate on things that are mundane...
'Do we need more Frozen Peas?' or 'Is it going to rain?'
But, sometimes, when we're gazing up at some pin-point little star,
We stop and gasp, considering exactly where we are!
'Monty Python' said it all, much more cleverly than I.
So learn 'his' words and recite them
As you look up at the sky!
*
From 'The Life of Brian'.
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power
The sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars

It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point
We go 'round every two hundred million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe
The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding

In all of the directions it can whiz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is
So remember when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth
(Don't forget the great tune!)

FINGERS CROSSED!

I'm not sure about Climate Change.
That it's happening, I don't doubt,
But it may be a natural phenomenon;
I'm unable to work that out.
But I do know Australia has coal
And I do know it earns us cash,
And I do know that it's a pollutant,
So burning it is rash.
And I do know my heart sinks slightly
When I see the ships going by,
On their way to be loaded with 'black gold',
Outlined on the bright blue sky.
Let's admit we're exporting pollution,
To cloud in another's air.
Earning money's expedient
But it isn't really fair.
So when I read of a method
Of burning coal underground
And merely exporting the gases
I'm glad such a method's been found.
It may be years in coming,
Innovations are often slow,
But wouldn't it be fabulous
To keep the 'nasties' down below!

P.S.
Yesterday was a glorious winter's day; chilly but brilliantly sunny. It was a good day for me personally as well.

We put-on 'Unhand Me' at the Wallsend Public Library. I could only rustle-up a cast of three today so the men, Malcolm and Dave, came to back us up. Joy and Loretta had to act five parts between them. Here they are dead (as rigor mortis proves!)

In the afternoon I was in a concert in the City Hall. Ths is the Mayoress's Parlour, where the concert was held.

And these are the refreshments!
