HANDS FOR HANDEL!
White sleeves, white arms, against the black
And then, unbelievably,
Hands.
The hands of the orchestra.
Waiting.
*
As goose feathers they waft and shudder
Against the mellow wood,
Against the warm bright wood of the violins.
*
As cats they pause on the cold keys,
White cats
Decorating bleak brick walls, making them glow.
*
As leaves scorched pale with sunshine
Fluttering to fall
They rest nervously upon the waiting brasses.
*
As the fingers of ladies taking tea
They coyly crook
Around the magic wand of the baton.
*
Then, suddenly, they swoop.
Human hands, majestic, vibrant, warm.
Hands for Handel!
