Contemplation

THREE WORD WEDNESDAY
We are asked to use the words
"crinkle demand navigate"

CONTEMPLATION

You sit across the way from me
As we travel in the train.
We have never met before;
We will never meet again.
I don't find you attractive;
You merely just exist.
If you and I had never met
You wouldn't have been missed.
And yet your close proximity
Demands I navigate
The contours of your sleeping face;
There's much to contemplate.
How old are you? And of what race?
And what is that little scar?
That crinkle by your bottom lip
Is a little bit bizarre.
Your nostrils are a bit too wide;
You can't be blamed for that.
You're going a bit thin on the top;
You should have worn a hat!
You look a trifle boring;
But your face is in repose.
Maybe you're vivacious
When you don't decide to doze.
I look out at the scenery
And then back at your face;
The endless fascination.......
The study of the human race.

BEGUILED

Was it her way of smiling
That made her so beguiling?
Was it those almond eyes,
Filled with such bright surprise?
Was it the shape of face?
Was it the charm and grace?
Half-woman and half-child?
Was that how she beguiled?
*
Beguiling? A compliment;
At least that is my intent.
That adjective means charming,
Attractive and disarming.
But take the root word 'guile'
And study that awhile!
It means 'crafty', 'artful', 'sly',
And 'Deceiving with a lie''!
*
So...... it follows, of course,
That a beautiful woman is false!
Surely a male invention,
That I feel bound to mention.
Sex-appeal is a form of guile;
A man is tricked by a tender smile!
Isn't that just like a man!
Never ready to carry the can.
*
Audrey Hepburn, Rest in Peace.
My joy in your 'guile' will never cease.

Your description of watching the snoozing train passenger is absolutely delightful! Thanks for taking me along for the ride!

I love the way your tongue bounces along as you speak the words. It's so much fun to read.

This has happened to me so many times in the train! And when I drop off, I realise what if the other person was thinking way too many funnier things about me! ha ha! :)

I really enjoyed this poem. I love watching people and trying to work out what they are like.
