Liked Logo/The Falmouth Packet

LIKED LOGO

I love logos; they always interest.

When I see a clever one I really am impressed.

This one from Landcare Australia really hits the spot;

It tells its tale so cleverly, we understand what's what.

It's about humanitarian aid both here and far away.

And I think it says everything that a logo ought to say.

THE FALMOUTH PACKET

I went to Falmouth once

When the Tall Ships were in port.

Big boats, little boats, rowing boats,

Craft of every sort

Were buffeting on the choppy waves

To get close to the sails,

And seagulls were whirling in and out

With the brisk wind in their tails.

The Tall Ships were majestic

And the focus of the day,

But I remember most of all

The happy crowds and the spray.

Glimpse/Onward

brebry@gmail.com

GLIMPSE

Through the open window

See the world go by.

See the other ferries

And the seagulls fly.

Stillness amid movement,

Darkness in the sun.

Contrast in the everyday,

Free for everyone.

ONWARD

Endlessly the road

Reaches over the next ridge

What lies beyond?

Beblubbered/Reason Enough!

BEBLUBBERED

I had a great friend, Althea, who made an art of crying.

She could just look dewy and that without  even trying.

Her great big eyes  would swim with tears, she'd go a little pale

(She was feeling emotional, maybe about a male.)

Tear-drops hung from her lashes, like a row of perfect pearls.

She really was the most fortunate of silly weeping girls.

After the tears were over she'd appear as good as new

As though she'd never cried at all! I swear that this was true.

But me! If I were emotional and prone to shed a tear,

I would become beblubbered and quite hideous, I fear.

'Beblubbered' means 'Made ugly by tears' and, certainly, this was me.

I was swollen, red and damp  as any crier could be.

My nose was shiny, twice its size, my eyes were little slits,

I was utterly transformed and, oh dear, it was the pits.

The transformation lasted for almost half a day

And my life, because I was hideous, became a lot more grey.

Oh how I longed to be Althea, who  made crying a fine art!

It's sad to be beblubbered when one has a broken heart.

REASON ENOUGH!

'Why did you marry Freddy?' I asked my friend, Louise.

'You haven't got much in common. Go on! Tell me please.'

'Well, you know how opposites attract' she said. 'We prove that is true...

For one thing, Freddy's eyes are brown and mine, as you see, are blue'.

'That's not a good reason for marrying!' I gave her a look and laughed;

To tell the truth I think that that is absolutely daft.'

'Well, we were clearly opposites' she said 'The reason is because

Freddy wasn't pregnant and I, most certainly, was!'

Take the Colour/Life Savers

TAKE THE COLOUR

Take the colour from the picture and see the shapes appear.

Suddenly the patterns are made visible and clear.

When colour rules the visual,  the lines fade out of sight

But we can enjoy their beauty when they're seen in black and white.

LIFE SAVERS

Every summer they are out there dressed in red and yellow,

Every one a splendid and adventurous sort of fellow.

When the waves are enormous or there's a nasty rip,

The Life Savers dive in there and they give death the slip.

On their very special craft they bounce through mighty waves.

Many are the swimmers that a great life-saver saves.

Beautiful Bays/ Striking a Pose

brebry@gmail.com

BEAUTIFUL BAYS

Sydney has such beautiful bays,

Each one a newfound treasure,

And we can take our ferry-rides

Enjoying them at our leisure.

The waters have carved their own sweet ways

In and out and around,

Creating all the little bays

Just asking to be found.

POSING

Stark against the sinking sun

The trees stand side by side,

Holding a reverential pose

Until the sun has died.

Quintessential/Living in the Present

QUINTESSENTIAL

'Quintessential,' we understand,

Means grand but  the grandest of the grand

Quintessential, best of the best,

The example by which we judge the rest.

The essence......  Yes that word is there

But the Quint part is  much much more rare.

I think it's Latin ....... well that's Googles view.....

And I think it means essential too.

Essential essential, top of the tree!

How curious a word can be.

LIVING IN THE PRESENT

We are living in something imaginary,

For the present is never here.

Say the word 'present' and straight away

The present will disappear.

In less than the twinkling of an eye......

The change takes place that fast....

The present will change completely

Into something else.....the past.

Can you hold on to the present?

It's intangible, like a mist,

Try to grab hold and it's slipped away;

There! It does not exist!

So, if the present is unreal,

With minute preceding minute,

Maybe we are not really here......

After all, we're living in it!

Platterpillar/Font

PLATTERPILLAR

Won't Diddums eat his apples?

Does he moan about his greens?

When he shoves his plate away from him

Do you know what he means?

Then, Mum, you must accommodate

His funny little ways;

Strive hard as you can with Diddums

To earn a little praise.

Make him a Platterpillar,

Even though you're late for work!

After all, you are a Mother

And Mothers never shirk.

Don't tell me that you've tried before!

Don't tell me that you're tired.

A little Mumsy coaxing

Is all that is required.

Nip out and buy some licorice

To make the other bits,

And also get a lolly face,

But make sure that it fits!

Good girl! You'll make a Mother, yet,

That a son may well adore.

Oh what a shame! Little Diddums

Has thrown it on the floor!

THE FONT

Shadow and shade. Shadow and shade.

See how it's crafted and charmingly made.

How many babies have hovered above it!

The name they were dubbed........did they hate it or love it?

A decision is made when they're blessed by the water,

A favourite name for a son or a daughter.

A decision is made there for good or for ill.

Is he called Beau when he would have liked Bill?

The power of the parents to make that decision!

The name that they choose may give rise to derision.

Be sure that you give him a name that he'll want

When you hold him so tenderly over the font!
