RECIPROCITY
When I am walking down the street
I smile at everyone I meet.
Sometimes they smile right back at me
And that is reciprocity, and rather sweet.
*
But sometimes, as I walk to town
My smile is answered with a frown
Or else a look that's really sour,
A look that one could call a glower! That gets me down.

RAIN SONG
Today was damp and draggly;
The rain came mizzling down.
Not much colour anywhere;
Nature wore a frown.
And then a flock of lorikeets
Came swooping down to feed!
Red and green and yellow too!
A welcome sight indeed!

Yes, reciprocity of smiles does feel really good. It is such a small thing, but if someone frowns in response it feels large. You accomplished the form well!
ReplyDeleteYour florette flows along with a lovely beat, and a subtle change in tone between the two stanzas. And kudos for using reciprocity as the rhyming word. Wow!
ReplyDeletelove it! hah!
ReplyDeleteI like reciprocity, the poem and the happening! Perhaps the smiles that aren't reciprocated will go into your karma account! :o)
ReplyDeleteMy hat is off to you for your lovely poem using the form...I love smiles that are returned and those grumpy looks are a bit disconcerting.
ReplyDeleteYou used reciprocity so well, and the smiles and frowns really worked well with this form. Loved the second poem as well.
ReplyDeletei liked reciprocity a lot also.

Very nice form and I agree, when people smile at me, my day is more cheerful ~
