LONG DIVISION
Is this an optical illusion? Will some Blogger tell me why
A rainbow can make such a neat division in the sky?
A cloud approaching stealthily would not come as an arc!
Why should a rainbow split the heavens into light and dark?
When I looked up in reality the sky all looked pale blue.
It was only through the camera that indigo shone through!
So, dear Scientific Blogger, please listen to my plea,
And explain this 'long division' to this rather ignorant me!

It's the glimmer from the pot of gold at the end lighting up the lower part of the sky. xo

It has been years since I saw a good rainbow! The division was probably there, you just didn't see it. It is amazing what cameras can do these days, like the ghost that appeared in Georgia O'Keeffe's black door!

Same colour through out the sky would have been so mundane to watch... Hope it answers you well.

ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful rainbow. I wish we could see one here. It has been so long since we have had rain I think the desert is shriveling up.
hardly ever see rainbows in my area...tho on rare occasions they are visible. nice capture of this one. as to why the dark/light, i've not a clue.

I've never noticed such a thing! An amazing sight and one of those things that I take as an affirmation and little gift from God! Have you ever seen an ice halo in the sky? It's kind of like a rainbow, only not as colorful. Where a rainbow is formed by mist, an ice halo is made of tiny particles of ice high in the atmosphere. I saw one on October 14 last year, and got pictures. My post on that is called "Ice Halo" if you want to see it.
